A community driver for Woking Community Transport (WCT) is a varied and satisfying role within a not for profit organisation, we provide varied services across Surrey including accessible door-to-door transport service (Dial-a-Ride), Digital Demand Responsive Transport (DDRT) & Home to school. Our transport services looks to provide service those who are vulnerable due to disability or age.
Your main responsibility will be transporting passengers to local services, transporting SEN children to school or providing vital transport for those in areas where there is very little public transport.
Hours:
· We are looking for the right candidate who is flexible to cover 2-3 days a week minimum 10 hours a week.
· Non-compulsory overtime available
Salary:
· £12.94 – 13.66 per hour (depending on service)
Duties include:
· Driving WCT vehicles to MIDAS standards
· Ensuring passenger safety at all times.
· Carrying out daily checks on vehicles and other related equipment to ensure that the highest standards are maintained
· Maintaining the vehicle in a clean and tidy condition, internally and externally
· Use of a Driver Tablet to receive service communications (DDRT & Dial-a-Ride)
· Use of an electronic ticket machine (DDRT & Dial-a-Ride)
· Processing contactless bank card and smartcard transactions
- Building rapport by effectively communicating with passengers and their relatives/friends.
- Responsible for securing wheelchairs and helping service users in and out of the minibus.
- Maintaining the vehicle in a clean and tidy condition, internally and externally.
- Carrying out duties with an appropriate demeanour, showing empathy, patience and the highest level of customer standards.
Person specification, experience and qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage but not essential
- Hold a full, UK driving licence with Dl status.
- Have a flexible approach to work.
- Enjoy working with people and have a helpful and sympathetic manner.
- Have the desire to be part of a team which promote our service and achieve excellence for our users.
- Respect confidentiality, protect sensitive client information.
- You should possess the right attitude for a flexible, small vehicle service in rural areas. As front-line ambassadors for WCT, your feedback will be critical in developing the service
Training:
· Full training on an electric vehicle and all associated equipment used on the service will be provided, along with passenger support training. Training will include MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme), wheelchair tie-downs and occupant restraint systems, customer care, disability and equalities awareness and safeguarding training.
· Use of an electronic ticket machine capable of processing contactless bank card and smart card transactions.
· Uniform
· WCT will provide a full uniform. However, a branded polo shirt provided by Surrey County Council must be worn by drivers when operating the service.
