Overview
A position has become available in our small family company, for an HGV Class 1 driver
We are a traditional family haulier established in 1976. We pride ourselves on our company image, our vehicles and, most importantly, the service we provide to our customers.
The successful candidate will have a dedicated lorry of good specification, with fridge/freezer, microwave etc.
The role will mainly consist of Scotland work, requiring nights out, with the occasional local/day run mixed in.
Weekend work is required, subject to driver’s hours and weekly rest. This usually comprises running out on a Sunday afternoon or running back to base early Saturday morning. This averages out at 1 in 3 usually.
Guaranteed 50hrs a week minimum
Overtime over the 50hrs collective
Weekend work is paid at overtime rate, regardless of accumulated hours.
Pay to be discussed based on experience and ability.
Nights out are paid at the rate allowed by HMRC to be non-taxable - £26.20 per night
We do pay for secure parking when required, but some nights you may be told to park at our customer’s secure premises, rather than in a service area. Nights out may be in remote areas due to the nature of our Scottish work.
Experience around Immingham docks and ferry trailers will be an advantage.
ADR training is a requirement of this position, however a non ADR driver may be considered with training provided after a probation period and subject to a retainer / repayment agreement.
We expect our equipment to be treated with respect. Cabs are to be kept clean and tidy and drivers must act in a professional manner, in terms of both their conduct and their driving style.
No smoking or vaping is allowed in cabs at anytime
A minimum of 2 years experience at Class 1 level is required and applicants must not have more than 6 points on their licence. Our insurance policy will not allow us to employ anyone with a drink or drug driving history.
The trucks are based at Pilham village near Gainsborough. We will not out base the trucks
This role is ideal for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual who enjoys long-distance work and has a positive work ethic. A large company mentality is not welcome in our small family business and you will be expected to conduct your daily duties with the company’s best interests at heart and to the best of your ability.
If you can’t work long hours, don’t want to work past 14:00 on a Friday, or believe you will dictate how and what my vehicles do then this isn’t the role for you. We do use our hours given the nature of the long distance work but I honestly don’t see the role as particularly demanding if you enjoy driving and have a days graft in you.
We rarely have positions available and drivers who join us tend to stay for a considerable length of time. This is a great opportunity for an “old school” driver who just wants to get on with the job.
