About Us
Harrington Builders PLC is seeking an experienced and motivated HGV Technician to join our workshop team based at our Iver depot which is currently under development. We will be looking for the right candidate to join us whilst we celebrate our 60 years in construction, there is major investments taking place to provide a brand new workshop facility in Iver. Being built to a high spec to maintain and service out HGV's and company vehicles.
Working within our busy transport department, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing our fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles and trailers, ensuring they remain safe, compliant and available for our construction operations across London and the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
- Complete preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with DVSA standards.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and ensure they meet all legal compliance requirements.
- Carry out defect rectification following driver walkaround checks.
- Complete scheduled maintenance in line with manufacturers' recommendations.
- Undertake emergency breakdown repairs when required.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Work closely with the Transport Manager and Workshop team to maximise vehicle availability.
- Carry out routine workshop housekeeping and ensure tools and equipment are maintained.
- Carry out PMI's 6 Weekly checks inline with schedules
- Support compliance with Health & Safety policies and company procedures.
- Assist with trailer servicing and repairs where required.
- Maintain and Service Company vehicles (small vans and 3.5T Pick up)
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in heavy vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Proficiency in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics for electrical wiring and mechanical systems.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for assembly and repair tasks.
- Electrical experience with troubleshooting wiring harnesses, sensors, and control units.
- Experience working with heavy machinery such as excavators and forklifts is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting and working in various environmental conditions.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician.
- Strong knowledge of HGV servicing, diagnostics and repairs.
- Good understanding of DVSA maintenance and compliance standards.
- Ability to diagnose faults efficiently using diagnostic equipment.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
- HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) or Class 2 (Category C) Licence.
- LOLER inspection experience.
- IRTEC Accreditation.
- Experience working on construction fleet vehicles.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Tachograph knowledge and experience.
