About Us
We're opening a brand-new food-to-go café in Derby, bringing together a fresh coffee and bakery counter with a hot food offer cooked and prepared in-store. We're building something that will serve everyone from busy professionals to local families, and we're looking for a Cafe Manager to help bring it to life from day one.
The Role
As Cafe Manager, you'll take the lead on the whole operation, overseeing the coffee and bakery counter as well as our wider fresh food offer. You'll be a hands-on leader, responsible for the day-to-day running of the café, the quality and consistency of what we serve, and building a team that shares our passion for fresh, high-quality food.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation of the café and food-to-go counters, including coffee, bakery, and hot food service
- Recruit, train, and lead a team of baristas and food-to-go staff, including barista training for new starters
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety across the kitchen and service areas
- Oversee fresh food preparation and cooking in-store, ensuring quality and consistency
- Manage stock, ordering, and supplier relationships to minimise waste and control costs
- Deliver excellent customer service and build strong relationships with the local community and regular customers
- Monitor sales performance and work towards site targets
- Confidently manage in-store digital screens and menu content systems, keeping displays accurate and up to date
- Support the wider team during our launch period, including staff recruitment and site setup ahead of opening
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience managing a café, coffee shop, or food-to-go site
- Strong barista skills and knowledge of coffee and bakery products
- A background in food preparation and kitchen operations
- Level 2 (or above) Food Hygiene certificate, or willingness to obtain one
- Confident people manager with experience recruiting and training staff
- Excellent customer service skills and a hands-on, can-do attitude
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-footfall environment
- Confident using digital systems and menu/CMS platforms independently
- Enthusiasm for being part of a brand-new café from the ground up

Pay: £25,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
