Exciting Opportunity: Assistant Manager - Newbury Location
Are you ready to take your career to the next level? We’re seeking a motivated Assistant Manager with a strong tyre background to join our dynamic team at The TyreBarn Newbury.
About the Role:
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Assistant Manager to join our fast-paced tyre centre in Newbury. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with tyre fitting or automotive service experience who is ready to step into a leadership role. You'll support the Centre Manager in running all aspects of the depot, lead by example in the workshop, deliver outstanding customer service, and help drive sales and performance targets in a high-volume environment.
Our centre handles a wide range of customer vehicles — from family cars and vans to light commercials — with a strong focus on quick, safe, and professional tyre fitting, repairs, wheel alignment, and related services.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Deputise for the Centre Manager during absences and take full operational responsibility for the site when required
- Lead, motivate, and develop a small team of tyre technicians
- Hands-on tyre fitting & repair work (cars, vans, and occasionally light commercials) including:
- Tyre replacement, punctures, wheel balancing, alignments
- Basic mechanical checks (brakes, suspension visuals, exhausts where applicable)
- Wheel alignment and tracking adjustments
- Coordinate daily workshop workflow to maximise productivity and ensure quick turnaround times
- Deliver excellent customer service — greet customers, carry out vehicle health checks, provide tyre advice, handle enquiries (in-person and telephone), and close sales
- Achieve and exceed personal and branch sales targets (tyres, wheels, alignments, ancillary services)
- Monitor and manage stock levels, conduct regular stock checks, and organise deliveries/unloading
- Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping, and workshop cleanliness
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- A proactive, can-do attitude, and the ability to take ownership of issues.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- A proven track record of achieving targets and goals.
- Excellent customer service skills with an eye for upsell opportunities.
- A keen attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
If you’re ready to step into a role where every day brings new challenges and rewards, we want to hear from you!
