Ottallen Ltd is the newest branch within the MJ Allen group based in Ashford Kent for the design and manufacture of high-quality decorative and functional metalwork products that encompass the use of other mediums such as wood and stone within them and combine traditional craft expertise within modern in-house production capability.
Ottallen brings together a strong heritage in manufacturing in all forms of metalwork including silversmithing from product design to specialist fabrication in both sheet and cast elements. Our experience spans projects from bespoke silver giftware and interior accessories to large bronze structures and technically complex pieces incorporating lighting / sound and automation.
Job Summary
We are looking for a candidate that can design and create products for the high-end market using a mixture of materials and be able to work closely with the Director and Clients to take a 2d design concepts and create 3d models that can be used to create GA drawings for client approval and to then create workshop drawings for the manufacturing process.
There will also be a requirement for the designer to come up with new products and ideas that we can propose to the clients and for our own range of products if needed.
As we do not work with just one material a basic knowledge of manufacturing with wood or metal is an advantage, but training will be given to the right candidate if needed.
The designer will also be able to create artwork for a UV printer and laser engraver, but again for the right candidate training can be provided.
We are looking for a candidate that is also happy to be hands on in the workshop if needed and full support will be offered for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate will be someone who can grow with the business and be proactive in the development of it and have an approach of being to think outside of the box in problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
- To work from 2d concept drawings to create 3d models
- To be able to use Rhino or SolidWorks design programs.
- To have a knowledge of illustrator and Photoshop programs would be an advantage.
- To review customer artwork and deal with any amendments required prior to manufacture.
- To produce GA drawings for the workshop and for client approval.
- To update Drawing register with every drawing and amendments as they are done.
- To set up artwork for Wax printer / CNC machine / Laser engraver / UV printer.
- To oversee and use machinery if required.
- Standard holiday entitlement of 28 days per year.
- Working hours Monday to Thursday – 8am to 4-30pm/ Friday 8am to 3-30pm
