Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Weekend Care Home Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents in a care home setting. This role involves creating wholesome dishes that meet dietary requirements while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. The successful candidate will play a vital part in enhancing the wellbeing and satisfaction of our residents through quality meal preparation and service during weekends.
Duties
- Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of meals suitable for residents' dietary needs and preferences
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Plan menus in collaboration with the care home management, considering nutritional guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and sanitising equipment
- Assist with food storage, inventory management, and ordering supplies as needed
- Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
- Monitor food quality during preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and appeal
- Adhere to all health and safety policies within the kitchen environment
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a care home or similar environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Culinary experience with the ability to create nutritious, balanced meals
- Excellent organisational skills to manage meal planning, preparation, and service efficiently
- Ability to work independently during weekends with minimal supervision
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff and residents
- Previous experience in serving or catering within a hospitality or restaurant setting is advantageous
