We are now looking for a reliable, conscientious new team member for our graduate programme.
This graduate programme combines technical support, customer engagement, CAD-assisted solution design, and exposure to advanced workholding technologies.
You will initially operate as a Technical Sales Administrator, assisting with daily customer enquiries and developing solutions to specific engineering challenges.
Over the next 2 to 3 years you will develop into an applications engineer with responsibility for:
- Advising customers on workholding solutions.
- Designing bespoke chuck jaws and fixtures.
- Supporting automation and robotic workholding applications.
- Conducting customer site visits.
- Delivering technical presentations.
- Supporting new product introductions.
- Becoming a recognised technical specialist within the UK workholding industry.
combining technical support, customer engagement, CAD-assisted solution design, and exposure to advanced workholding technologies.
We don't expect you to know everything right now. However,
You will need:
- A degree (or HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Sound understanding of engineering fundamentals, including manufacturing processes, engineering materials, tolerances and fits, and technical drawing interpretation (including an awareness of GD&T — geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Some CAD experience (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Basic understanding of CNC machining.
- Knowledge of workholding, fixturing, or tooling.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- An Understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T (awareness expected at graduate level; fluency developed in post).
- A basic understanding of machining processes, particularly turning and milling.
- To be competent with Microsoft Office.
- The ability to learn new engineering products quickly.
- CAD modelling and assembly modelling.
- Technical sketching.
- CNC machining knowledge.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
- A basic understanding of metrology.
- An awareness of quality standards (ISO 9001), traceability, and — given the sector — export-sensitive work.
CAD Requirements (Experience with any recognised CAD package is acceptable, with training provided where necessary.)
- Produce simple fixture concepts.
- Modify existing CAD models.
- Create customer proposal drawings.
- Visualise machining operations.
- Assist with bespoke jaw and fixture design.
You must have a genuine enthusiasm for engineering and an interested in understanding how components are manufactured, rather than simply processing orders. You will be naturally inquisitive and a good listener, asking the right diagnostic questions to understand the real problem behind the often vague enquiry, to produce a logically thought through, practical, deliverable and profitable solution.
You must enjoy helping customers and building long-term relationships. You must be well organised, have a positive attitude, be confident and professional, reflecting our brand and reputation built over 80 years.
Primarily you must understand that providing solutions matters more than simply selling products.
