Weekend Mental Health Support Worker
Overview
We are looking for a compassionate, committed and experienced Weekend Mental Health Support Worker to join our dedicated care team.
This role involves supporting a gentleman living in the Lincoln area who has a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and experiences auditory hallucinations and hearing voices. He receives a 24-hour care package, including sleep-in support overnight.
This is a weekend-only position, working a 48-hour shift pattern consisting of a day shift, sleep-in night and following day shift.
The successful candidate will provide person-centred support, promoting independence, dignity, safety and wellbeing while building a positive and trusting relationship with the individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Support with personal care and continence needs.
- Prepare meals and support with healthy eating.
- Administer medication safely and in accordance with prescribed guidance and company procedures.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Support with household cleaning and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment.
- Accompany and support the individual to access the community and attend activities.
- Respond appropriately and calmly to mental health needs, including periods of distress, hearing voices or experiencing hallucinations.
- Follow individualised care and support plans and promote independence wherever possible.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care, medication and any relevant incidents.
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals and the wider care team.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting adults with mental health needs – essential.
- Full, valid UK driving licence – essential, as the role involves supporting the individual within the community.
- Previous experience in health and social care or a similar support role is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, with patience, empathy and resilience.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when supporting someone experiencing mental health difficulties.
- A commitment to person-centred care and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team.
- Enhanced DBS check required.
