Deputy Group Chief Governance Officer – Interim
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential to extend

Hours: Full-time
Working Pattern: Hybrid, with 3 days per week on site
Pay Rate: TBC, dependent on experience
Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting an experienced Deputy Group Chief Governance Officer for an interim assignment within a complex NHS Group environment.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished governance professional to lead a major programme of work focused on aligning governance arrangements across the Group. You will help develop the future Group Governance structure, lead the change and consultation process, and support the delivery of effective, integrated governance arrangements.
The post is initially for 3 months, with potential to extend. A permanent recruitment process is expected to begin shortly, and the successful interim candidate may also support this process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the programme of work to align and strengthen governance arrangements across the Group.
- Develop and implement the future Group Governance structure and framework.
- Lead governance change, stakeholder engagement and consultation.
- Provide strategic advice to Boards, Committees, Executive Directors and senior stakeholders.
- Deputise for the Group Chief Governance Officer where required.
- Lead and develop integrated approaches to corporate governance, Board governance, risk and assurance.
- Oversee governance arrangements supporting clear accountability, decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Provide senior leadership across risk management, Board Assurance Frameworks and organisational assurance.
- Support strategic leadership of Freedom to Speak Up, Information Governance, Data Protection and Information Risk Management.
- Lead governance workstreams linked to organisational transformation, integration and Group development.
- Build effective relationships across organisational boundaries and lead teams through complex change.
Requirements
To be considered, you will have significant senior leadership experience within NHS governance, corporate affairs, risk, assurance or a related function.
You will also have:
- Extensive experience advising Boards, Chairs, Committees and Executive Directors.
- Experience developing and improving governance and assurance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of NHS governance, accountability and regulatory requirements.
- Experience of risk management and Board Assurance Frameworks.
- Knowledge of Information Governance, Data Protection and information risk.
- Experience leading complex programmes, transformation or governance redesign.
- Excellent leadership, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to provide credible strategic advice and constructive challenge.
- Strong judgement, integrity and the ability to handle highly sensitive matters.
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries in complex environments.
A relevant qualification in governance, company secretarial practice, law, risk management or a related discipline would be advantageous.
