We are an ambitious children's residential care provider preparing to open our first specialist solo children's home in Leeds. Our vision is to provide exceptional, therapeutic care for children and young people who have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments and placement instability, creating an environment where they can build trust, develop resilience and thrive.
Our home will provide a single occupancy (solo) placement for children and young people aged 11–17 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and complex needs.
Our therapeutic model is built upon:
- Trauma-informed practice
- Attachment-informed care
- PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy)
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Relationship-based practice
By providing consistent 2:1 staffing, bespoke care planning and a low-stimulus environment, we aim to offer children the stability, safety and individual attention they need to achieve positive, long-term outcomes.
As May Meadows Ltd continues to grow, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become the Responsible Individual across multiple children's homes, playing a key role in the strategic development and long-term success of the organisation.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Responsible Individual (RI) to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in establishing and developing May Meadows Ltd.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new organisation from the very beginning, embedding a culture of excellence, strong governance and child-centred practice.
Working closely with our Directors and Registered Manager, you will ensure the home consistently delivers outstanding care while maintaining full compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
As Responsible Individual, you will represent the Registered Provider and provide strategic leadership, governance and oversight across the service.
Key Responsibilities
As Responsible Individual, you will:
- Act as the Registered Provider's representative with Ofsted.
- Provide strategic leadership and governance across the organisation.
- Ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, safeguarding legislation and Ofsted requirements.
- Support, mentor and professionally challenge the Registered Manager to promote high standards of care and continuous improvement.
- Monitor safeguarding practice, incidents, complaints, risk management and children's outcomes.
- Oversee quality assurance systems, internal audits, Regulation 44 reports and Regulation 45 reviews.
- Promote a positive organisational culture where children are listened to, respected and empowered.
- Build positive relationships with Local Authorities, commissioning teams, Ofsted and partner agencies.
- Ensure the service continues to develop in line with best practice and regulatory expectations.
- Report to the Directors on service performance, compliance, risks and improvement plans.
About You
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for improving the lives of children and young people and can provide strong strategic leadership within a therapeutic residential environment.
Essential
- Significant leadership experience within children's residential care.
- Previous experience as a Responsible Individual, Registered Manager, Operations Manager or Regional Manager within children's residential services.
- Excellent knowledge of:
- Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- The Quality Standards
- Care Standards Act 2000
- Ofsted inspection framework
- Safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance
- Proven experience supporting children's homes through Ofsted inspections.
- Excellent leadership, governance and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- A genuine passion for achieving exceptional outcomes for children and young people.
Desirable
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting the registration of new children's homes.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic care models.
