Volunteer Instructor – South Shields Sea Cadets
(Please note that this is an unpaid role)
Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer role where you can make a real difference to young people while developing your own skills and experiences?
At South Shields Sea Cadets, we are seeking enthusiastic and committed Volunteer Instructors to join our team (MUST be 18 and over). No previous military, maritime, or instructional experience is required—just a positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to support and inspire young people.
About the Role
As a Volunteer Instructor, you will help deliver a varied and engaging programme for cadets aged 10–18. Activities may include leadership, teamwork, navigation, first aid, drill, adventure training, waterborne activities, and personal development opportunities.
You will work alongside a friendly and supportive team of volunteers, helping young people build confidence, learn new skills, and achieve their potential.
What We Offer
- Full training and ongoing support.
- Opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
- Experience in leadership, mentoring, and instructional skills.
- A welcoming and inclusive volunteer environment.
- The chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of local young people.
Afloat Opportunities
One of the highlights of our programme is our afloat activities during the summer season. We regularly take part in boating and water-based training, providing exciting experiences for both cadets and volunteers.
If you have little or no experience on the water, that's absolutely fine. We are committed to supporting volunteers over time to develop their skills and confidence afloat. We actively encourage and assist volunteers in gaining relevant boating, instructional, and maritime qualifications, helping them progress at a pace that suits them.
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. You may be:
- Looking to give back to your community.
- Interested in working with young people.
- Keen to develop new skills and qualifications.
- Interested in maritime activities and adventure training.
- Looking for a meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunity.
- If you are a skilled mariner or have maritime or a water sports background, we would welcome an application from you to join our team.
By becoming a Volunteer Instructor, you'll be joining a dedicated team that helps young people develop confidence, resilience, and life skills while enjoying a wide range of exciting activities.
If you're ready to volunteer your time, learn new skills, and be part of something special, we'd love to hear from you. Join South Shields Sea Cadets and help shape the next generation while embarking on your own rewarding journey.
