The Retail Services department operates two retail stores and a Café on and off campus with the aim to provide the students with the finest quality, best value products and services, served in a stimulating and well-maintained environment.
The role of Retail Assistant is based in The Premier, providing a friendly and efficient service to customers and day-to-day support to the store team, working under the direction of the Retail Duty Manager.
- To provide a friendly, efficient and helpful service to all customers, both at the till and throughout the store.
- To operate the EPOS/till system accurately, including cash, card and contactless transactions.
- To replenish stock and ensure shelves, displays and price labels are well maintained and consistently presented.
- To assist with the receipt, checking and storage of deliveries.
- To carry out regular stock rotation and date checks, reporting any short-dated or damaged stock to the Duty Manager.
- To maintain high standards of cleanliness, tidiness and health & safety throughout the store.
- To assist with stocktakes and stock counts as required.
- To follow all cash handling, security and loss-prevention procedures.
- To assist with merchandising and promotional displays in line with Retail Services guidelines.
- To respond to routine customer queries and escalate more complex issues to the Duty Manager.
- To assist staff from other shops and departments as required and any other duties that may reasonably be expected by the Retail Duty Manager or Retail Services Manager.

Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment
- Food hygiene certificate (training provided if not already held)
- Term Time contract for 31 weeks per year, working 30 hours per week.
- Any 5 days from 7 including evenings and weekends
Hours to be worked within The Premier as required by the needs of the business.
This is a Grade 1 role and is remunerated at £11,820 per annum, paid monthly around the last Friday of each month. No additional payments or allowances and no contractual entitlement to overtime.
You will receive an annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks per annum. Annual leave entitlement forms part of the total annualised hours for the post.
Holiday pay is calculated in line with current legislation and legal guidance.
