Hours
22:00 – 06:00, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Job Purpose
To ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the hotel during overnight hours while providing excellent customer service to guests. The Night Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of public areas, assisting with guest requests, carrying out routine overnight tasks, and preparing the hotel for the following day's operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Services
- Welcome and assist late-arriving guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Complete guest check-ins and check-outs using the Guestline Property Management System (PMS) where required.
- Respond promptly to guest requests and enquiries throughout the night.
- Handle telephone calls, emails, and any overnight reservations as required.
- Provide a high standard of customer service at all times.
Hotel Operations
- Carry out regular security checks throughout the hotel and surrounding grounds.
- Ensure all external doors are secured and hotel security procedures are followed.
- Monitor fire alarm panels and respond appropriately to alarms or emergencies.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or incidents to management.
- Complete all night shift checklists and accurately hand over to the morning team.
Housekeeping Support
- Prepare housekeeping trolleys with fresh linen, towels, toiletries, and cleaning supplies ready for the morning team.
- Organise and replenish the housekeeping linen store.
- Ensure sufficient stock of guest amenities is available for the day's housekeeping operation.
- Remove rubbish and recycling from designated areas where required.
Cleaning Duties
- Clean and maintain all public areas, including reception, lounge, corridors, entrance areas, public toilets, and staff facilities.
- Vacuum, mop, dust, and sanitise communal areas to a high standard.
- Ensure the reception area is tidy and presentable for the morning shift.
- Carry out any additional cleaning tasks assigned by management.
Administration
- Operate the Guestline Property Management System (PMS) as required.
- Process guest payments and maintain accurate records where necessary.
- Complete overnight reports and documentation.
- Ensure guest information is handled in accordance with GDPR requirements.
Health & Safety
- Follow all hotel policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for guests, visitors, and colleagues.
- Report accidents, security concerns, and maintenance issues immediately.
- Assist with emergency procedures, including fire evacuations, if required.
Skills & ExperienceEssential

- Basic IT skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Flexible approach to working night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Experience using Guestline PMS.
- Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience.
- Basic maintenance knowledge would be advantageous.
