Theorise is looking for flexible and professional Support Workers to work with a student with autism in Inverness. This role is part of Theorise’s external support team and involves working alongside students to help them succeed academically by staying focused, organised, and engaged during their classes.
Support Workers help facilitate access to learning by providing in-class and practical academic support across further and higher education. The type of support required varies based on the student’s individual Needs Assessment Report (NAR) and Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
What is the role of a Support Worker?
The Support Worker job can take on many roles and responsibilities such as assisting the student in classes to keep them focussed and on task, working as a personal assistant to help them access relevant research materials for assessments, note taking support. This is not an extensive list of duties that the support worker can be carried out and will vary on a student-by-student basis. However, this role is vital in assisting the student’s academic progression.
It is important that the relationship between the in-class Support Worker and the student is a positive one, as we expect the student to work with the same Support Worker throughout the full academic year.
Main duties and responsibilities
· Provide in-class support tailored to each student’s individual needs.
· Assist with preparation for and organisation during lectures.
· Help students remain on task and understand expectations.
· Deliver support in line with Theorise and university/college guidelines.
· Maintain boundaries and promote the student’s independence.
· Complete timesheets and maintain records accurately.
· Communicate with Disability Services if any concerns arise.
· Represent Theorise professionally, respecting confidentiality and safeguarding policies.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience required
· Strong communication, patience, and reliability.
· Understanding of autism and other learning difficulties.
· Experience working in an academic, youth work, or support environment is desirable.
· Ability to remain professional, encouraging, and discreet during classroom settings.
Qualifications
It is essential that applicants hold a degree or equivalent.
Additionally, the following are desirable:
· Completion of the NAS Core Autism Training Modules
· A background in education, psychology, youth work, or a related area
Working Conditions & Pay
Support will be for 7 hours per week initially as follows:
Monday 9am - 11am
Tuesday 2pm - 5pm
Thursday 9am - 11am
This will take place on campus in Inverness so applicants must be available to work on campus at all times shown.
Pay Rate: £23.60 per hour + holiday pay accrual on a PAYE basis
