Mitchells Auction Co. Ltd. is a long-established auctioneering firm (established 1873) with a modern livestock market and associated rural environmental services based at the Lakeland Agricultural Centre, Cockermouth.
About the Role
Based in our Cockermouth office, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Trainee Farm Adviser to join our team of dedicated, environmental professionals to work closely with our agricultural clients as well as the rural community. From agricultural grant preparation to Agro-forestry plans, we offer a range of services across Cumbria and Northern England. Day to day, the role is office based with opportunities to conduct farm and site visits.
About You and What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a well organised individual with the flexibility to swiftly move between different projects. You will also have good computer skills as well as being proactive, enthusiastic and a team player.
Essential:
ü A good all-round knowledge of the modern UK agricultural industry.
ü Understanding of current and old environmental stewardship schemes.
ü The ability to contribute to our department’s work on Agri-environment schemes and grant funding opportunities.
ü Excellent administrative, report writing and presentation skills as well as the ability to use excel, word and power point.
ü Ability to prioritise workload effectively and have good time management skills.
ü Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels.
Desirable:
ü Knowledge of business planning, farm sustainability work and planning permission.
ü Knowledge of various woodland and other environmental grant schemes.
ü Knowledge of agricultural statutory legislation and government bodies.
Other desirable skills:
ü Either a degree or qualification in a relevant subject or evidenced experience in land management, administration and farm advice.
ü Experience of carrying out farm visits.
ü Ability to use various mapping software.
