The role
We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to work peripatetically in primary schools throughout the Renfrewshire area, providing evidence-based therapy for children presenting with psychological and emotional issues. This will mainly involve therapeutic support to children on an individual basis but will also include some small group provision also.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a range of therapeutic interventions to support the psychological wellbeing of children.
- Manage your client caseload, scheduling appointments in school and calls to parent/carers as part of the support provision.
- Maintain a daily record (i.e., keeping it up to date) of appointment attendance using Health Is One system.
- Maintain a daily record of Clinical Notes using the Health Is One system.
- Support all therapeutic work using the Health Is One required measurement tools.
- Competent at and actively involved in promoting psychological wellbeing and the supportive service of Health Is One within your place of work (e.g., assemblies, classrooms, events).
- Attend meetings with management, schools.
- Prepare, attend, and contribute to Triage discussions for Primary School Children.
- Prepare, attend and contribute to Child Plan Meetings in schools.
- Provide an individualised support/ action plan with reasonable recommendations to both parents/ carers and schools.
- Prepare, complete forms and attend personal review meetings as organised by manager.
- Build & maintain positive collaborative relationships with School staff.
- Be involved in parents’ evenings and family community events.
You will work collaboratively with other agencies and mental health professionals to provide a service to children and families. You will also contribute to service development and will participate in service evaluation within the area as directed. There will be a service manager who will provide support and guidance in your work. You will work collaboratively with the business operations team who manage referrals.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience of working with children or young people in a formal setting, e.g. a school, out-of-school club, voluntary organisations.
- Hold a driving licence and have access to a car to travel to school locations through Renfrewshire area
- Awareness of key issues impacting on the psychological wellbeing of children and young people.
- Excellent Organisation skills
- Willingness and ability to collaboratively with others to meet the needs of children and families
- Good Listening Skills
- Approachable
- Flexible
Desirable Training, Qualification and Skills:
- Counselling qualification would be advantageous
- Certificate in counselling skills would be advantageous
- Experience of supporting the emotional wellbeing needs of children and young people
- Knowledge and awareness of the issues relevant to working within an educational and learning context.
- Awareness of the role and responsibilities of other agencies in supporting the psychological wellbeing of children and young people
- Knowledge of responsibilities in terms of Safeguarding and Child-Protection
- IT competence

Other
- An enhanced CRB disclosure will be required.
The post-holder must:
- Be able to cope with unpleasant behaviour including verbal aggression and occasionally to work in conditions sub-optimal for clinical activity.
