About STB Automotive
STB Automotive is an independent McLaren, performance and prestige vehicle specialist, working with some of Scotland's most exciting road, supercar, track and race vehicles.
Our workshop regularly sees marques including McLaren, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW M, Ferrari, Audi RS and other specialist performance vehicles.
We are a small, independent business with McLaren and Bentley-trained experience within the team. We have built our reputation around quality workmanship, accurate diagnosis and attention to detail.
We are not a high-volume garage and we don't operate around unrealistic productivity or upselling targets. Our priority is doing the job properly and looking after our customers' vehicles to the standard they deserve.
The Position
We are looking for an experienced Performance & Prestige Vehicle Technician to join our team.
This is not a general servicing or fast-fit technician position.
We are particularly interested in technicians coming from a prestige main dealer, performance specialist, supercar specialist or motorsport environment.
You do not need previous McLaren experience. We are more interested in finding someone with strong technical ability, diagnostic skills and excellent mechanical standards who wants to develop further into specialist and supercar work.
You will work across everything from routine servicing and mechanical repairs to complex diagnostics, suspension and chassis work, performance upgrades, track preparation and specialist projects.
The variety of work can be significant — one day may involve servicing or diagnosing a McLaren, while another could involve suspension set-up on a track car or investigating a complex mechanical or electrical fault.
What We're Looking For
You should:
- Be a fully qualified Level 3 Vehicle Technician or equivalent
- Have at least 5 years' professional workshop experience
- Have meaningful experience with performance, prestige or technically advanced vehicles
- Be confident carrying out mechanical repairs and diagnostic work independently
- Have strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Understand the level of care required when working on high-value customer vehicles
- Take genuine pride in the quality and presentation of your work
- Be comfortable working within a small team where individual standards matter
- Hold a full UK driving licence
Experience with marques such as BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Audi R8, Bentley, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus or similar would be particularly relevant.
Previous supercar experience is advantageous but not essential for the right technician.
This Role Probably Isn't For You If...
Your experience has mainly been limited to basic servicing, tyres, brakes, MOT preparation or routine fleet/van maintenance and you do not have strong diagnostic or performance-vehicle experience.
We are looking for an experienced technician who is already operating at a high technical standard and wants the opportunity to take the next step into more specialist work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Servicing and maintaining performance, prestige and supercars
- Mechanical repairs and component replacement
- Advanced fault finding and diagnostic work
- Suspension, steering and chassis repairs
- Performance modifications and upgrades
- Track and race-car preparation
- Vehicle inspections and accurate digital health checks
- Road testing and confirming repairs
- Working alongside experienced specialist technicians on unusual and complex jobs
Why Join STB?
This is an opportunity to move away from the repetitive nature and pressure of a typical high-volume workshop.
You'll have:
- £38,675–£45,500 salary, depending on experience and ability
- Monday–Friday working, with the option of a 4-day working week / 3-day weekend available by agreement
- Overtime opportunities
- No dealership upselling targets
- No pressure to rush work simply to hit productivity figures
- A clean, well-equipped specialist workshop
- Regular exposure to supercars and high-performance vehicles
- Interesting diagnostic and specialist mechanical work
- Performance, track and race-car projects
- Opportunity to expand your knowledge of McLaren and other specialist marques
- Direct access to the business owner and involvement in how the workshop operates
- Genuine opportunity to develop into a senior/specialist technician
- Potential involvement in trackside and motorsport work
We're a small team, so we're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the business rather than simply another technician on the workshop floor.
If you're currently working within a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley or similar dealership/specialist and would like to move into more varied performance and supercar work, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
