We are pleased to advertise this exciting opportunity for experienced Physiotherapists to join our Critical Care therapy team providing highly specialist assessment and intervention to children and young people on the critical care unit which includes ICU, HDU, the burns unit and cardiac ward.
The critical care team includes a clinical specialist physiotherapist, highly specialist physiotherapists, a highly specialist occupational therapist and specialist rotational physiotherapists. The team mange the care of highly complex children and young people on the critical care unit as well as participating in education, governance and research activities on the unit and wider therapy service.
The successful candidate will join also our wider Integrated Therapy team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Assistant Practitioners across the acute and community services.
To be a team member of Alder Hey’s Paediatric Physiotherapy team and as such, carry a complex caseload across Critical Care, including PICU, HDU, cardiac wards, burns and neonates working in partnership with parents, carers education and other service providers to ensure a child centred approach to therapy.
To have responsibility for the delivery and co-ordination of high-quality Physiotherapy to children with a range of conditions and presentations in conjunction with the wider critical care team.
To work as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision utilising a high level of knowledge, developed through experience of working in Critical Care. Being responsible for the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of a highly specialist caseload; using specialist respiratory assessment skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in patients within this specialty who have acute and long term, serious and terminal conditions.
To provide a range of specialist individualised therapeutic interventions, supporting children through provision of highly specialist advanced clinical reasoning, to provide formulate and deliver individual treatment plans. Delivering holistic highly specialist assessment of the child’s needs and providing treatment programmes to meet the child’s rehabilitation needs.

To organise this caseload effectively and efficiently regarding clinical priorities, time, and staffing levels.
To act as a lead therapist to assess, diagnose/interpret and manage own specialist caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with the CSP code of conduct and HCPC standards. To use highly developed analytical and judgment skills to be directly involved in the clinical decision-making process as part of the multidisciplinary team, using and interpreting the results of diagnostic tests to progress the management of the child’s condition and respiratory status.
To act as an autonomous practitioner responsible for the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of a highly specialist caseload. within a specialised paediatric Physiotherapy service.
The post holder may be required to provide input to other areas of the service as required.
To build on previous experience enabling further development of clinical and managerial competencies, with responsibility for management and leadership of rotational staff , assistants and students within the team. To supervise and support junior staff within these specialities and support across the acute occupational therapy and Physiotherapy service.
To support the educational role of the critical care therapy team providing training for the wider critical care teams
To co-ordinate the respiratory on-call rota with other senior respiratory staff and provide competency training and support for physiotherapy staff on the on-call rota.
Utilise highly specialised physiotherapy assessment and therapeutic skills to promote a holistic approach to the early rehabilitation including early mobilisation and developmental therapy for patients with complex critical care needs.
