Overview
We are looking for a Purchase Ledger Clerk to join our finance team and take responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices and payments. You will play an important role in maintaining strong supplier relationships and ensuring the purchase ledger is kept up to date and accurate. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organised, detail-focused and confident working with numbers, with an interest in developing their career within finance
The role is site based but there is flexibility for occasional working from home.
Responsibilities
- Accurately receive, code, and process supplier invoices and credit notes using Sage 200.
- Match invoices to purchase orders, ensuring all goods and services are properly received and authorised.
- Resolve discrepancies and queries with suppliers and internal departments promptly.
- Supplier Account Maintenance
- Reconcile supplier statements to the purchase ledger in Sage 200.
- Weekly credit card reconciliations
- Set up new supplier accounts in compliance with company policies.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date supplier records and documentation required for VAT claims and tax compliance.
- Payment Processing via the bank and trade facilities
- Obtain payment authorisations and ensure timely payment to suppliers.
- Issue remittance advice and handle supplier payment queries.
- General Ledger & Financial Support
- Assist with month-end procedures and completion of purchase ledger close routines, supporting VAT and tax submissions as required.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining accessible, up-to-date records.
- Administrative Duties
- Provide reporting and analysis of purchase ledger accounts as requested.
- Assist the finance team with any ad-hoc duties
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies
Qualifications
- AAT Desirable but not essential
- At least 4 years experience in a similar role
- Strong understanding of purchase ledger processes
- Experience working within a fast-paced commercial environment
- Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Lookups advantageous)
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach
- Sage 200 experience essential
