Head of Private Family Law - Solicitor (7PQE+)

Overview
A well-established, multi-office law firm in West London is looking to appoint a Head of Family to lead and grow its existing department. The firm has a strong pipeline of privately funded work and an established reputation across family law.
This role offers a solid caseload, leadership responsibility, and the opportunity to shape and develop the department within a stable and supportive environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for leading the Family department alongside managing your own caseload of privately funded matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a personal caseload of family matters
- Supervising and supporting junior fee earners
- Driving departmental performance and billing
- Developing client relationships and referral networks
- Contributing to business development and growth strategy
Work will include:
- Divorce and separation
- Financial remedy matters
- Private children work
- Cohabitation disputes
- Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
- Domestic abuse matters
There is an existing caseload and team in place, with ongoing new instructions.
Candidate Profile
You will be:
- A qualified Solicitor in England & Wales
- Ideally 7+ PQE (flexible depending on experience)
- Experienced in handling a full range of privately funded family matters
- Comfortable managing and supervising a small team
- Able to manage your own caseload with minimal supervision
- Confident dealing directly with clients and maintaining relationships
Desirable:
- Previous supervisory or Head of Department experience
- Experience dealing with mid to high-net-worth clients
- Advocacy experience
- Strong billing performance and commercial awareness
