To manage the Housekeeping Department on a day-to-day basis, to ensure that the Housekeeping service provided to the Trust meets and abides by the NHS Cleaning Standards.

1. To manage and supervise all areas of housekeeping on a day-to-day basis in line with Trust Visions and Trust Values.
2. To manage the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department and line manage the respective Senior Supervisor/Supervisors of the department.
3. To plan and monitor staffing for new departments and or changes to service requirements within the housekeeping department and assist with new projects.
4. To maintain computer records for the housekeeping department.
5. To ensure that the outlines service specification is met, using auditing systems as provided for the department.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
1. To manage and supervise all areas of housekeeping on a day-to-day basis in line with Trust Visions and Trust Values.
2. To manage the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department and line manage the respective Senior Supervisor/Supervisors of the department.
3. To plan and monitor staffing for new departments and or changes to service requirements within the housekeeping department and assist with new projects.
4. To maintain computer records for the housekeeping department.
5. To ensure that the outlines service specification is met, using auditing systems as provided for the department.
6. To liaise with Management on service provision and respond to any additional requests that are outside the normal working routine. To monitor the budget for housekeeping and ensure that the budget is not exceeded.
7. To identify training needs of staff. To design, deliver and monitor training programs.
8. To monitor Supervisors and ensure training is organised and arranged for staff.
9. To attend mandatory training and any other training course as required and to keep accurate records of all training.
10. To complete IPDR’s in a timely manner and identify training and development needs of Supervisors and to ensure Supervisors are also undertaking IPDR’s as required for staff members.
11. To observe good hygiene practices at all times and ensure that staff observe current hygiene regulations.
12. To monitor all auditing systems used by housekeeping to ensure compliance with all standards required such as NHS Cleaning Standards.
13. Raise requisitions on the Trust’s ordering system for equipment required and for the payment of agencies used by the housekeeping department.
14. Check and authorise for payment, invoices generated for the housekeeping department and monitor the spend for housekeeping.
15. To lias on hydrogen peroxide vapour decontamination.
16. To ensure that all training records are accurately maintained, and on-compliances are dealt with in a timely manner.
17. To ensure supervisors complete weekly and monthly timesheets and complete all standard documentation related to this process.
18. To monitor and ensure supervisors completed rotas for all housekeeping teams and authorise any overtime that will incur additional expenditure.
19. To arrange for additional staff to work due to service demands that are funded from existing housekeeping establishment. To ensure weekend list initiatives are monitors, recorded and submitted to Finance.
20. To be responsible for the recruitment of facilities staff within the housekeeping teams.
21. To report to the Senior Facilities Manager any capital requirements.
22. To ensure the working time directives are applied to the housekeeping department.
23. To comply with statutory standards, for example Health and Safety and Governance.
24. To ensure industrial relations and human relations within the housekeeping department are maintained.
25. To receive information from relevant supervisors on the Trust Attendance Policy and report to the Senior Facilities Manager.
26. To attend departmental meetings with the Senior Facilities Manager and Supervisors.
27. To assist supervisors with local induction of all new staff.
28. To assist supervisors to carry out appropriate risk assessments for their departments.
29. To lead COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) system and assessments for the housekeeping department.
30. To record and investigate any accidents to facilities staff whilst on duty and to ensure that they receive medical attention when required.
31. To work to Trust standards for all areas of responsibilities. To assist with all quality initiatives applicable to the department.
32. To liaise with external contractors for the provision of equipment and training.
33. To facilitate the trialling of new products and equipment and reporting all findings back to Senior Management.
