The Sports Liability team is looking for a Paralegal to join the team. You will provide assistance to lawyers in the team in running complex and catastrophic injury files of a high value and importance to our clients.
The Sports Liability team works on behalf of insurance companies, sporting national governing bodies, clubs, associations and commercial entities, investigating and resolving personal injury compensation claims, addressing and attending at inquests, and advising generally. This is an exciting time to join as you will be part of a new and expanding team.
Who you will be working with
The Sports Liability team is headed by David Spencer (Manchester) and Richard Rowe (Birmingham). You will be working with their respective teams, and sitting in the wider Complex Injury team. Our new colleague would be required to work in the Birmingham or Newport office 5 days a week initially, with this reviewed at the end of the first 6 months.
You are expected to provide a timely, professional and high-quality service to our clients in the management of claims. Depending on your role, and with the support of a supervisor and team manager you will be responsible for:
- Supporting Senior Lawyers in the day to day handling of claims
- Undertake research of the law and sporting regulations
- Analyse, summarise and collate medical records and other case relevant data and evidence
- Handle routine correspondence and communications with the client, third parties and claimants’ solicitors to ensure the progression of the case to resolution.
- Assume responsibility for agreed tasks on a claim including assisting with investigations, instructing experts, handling disclosure and instructing counsel.
- Attend hearings, conferences, and meetings to take comprehensive notes and thereafter devise action plans and to do lists
- Complying with internal and external service level agreements.
- Handling confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols.
- Ensuring appropriate key dates reminders are in place on all matters.
- Ensuring that a timetable exists to enable the progression of the case to resolution.
- Prompting the principal lawyer to action matters diarised.
- Maintaining internal and external case management documents.
- Recording timely and accurate management information.
- Maintaining an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans.
- Developing technical knowledge through completing online courses, attending training sessions and reading appropriate publications.
- Acting as a point of contact for clients.
- Meeting individual financial targets.
- Assisting / completing MI for the wider team
- Liaising with accounts on billing queries
We are happy to hear from graduates or those with customer service/retail experience who are team players and have the passion for learning. We'd also like to hear from Paralegals who may already have experience working in a legal environment.
You will have;
- A keen interest in working on sporting, complex, and catastrophic injury claims.
- At least 2 years’ experience of dealing with litigated bodily injury claims.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills and an eye for detail.
- Good commercial awareness with an ability to provide commercially rounded advice to clients and view matters from a business perspective.
- A flexible attitude with an ability to adapt to rapid change, both internally and in the context of clients' businesses.
- The ability to work as a team player with a collegiate approach to knowledge sharing and problem solving, both internally and with the clients.
