European Road Freight Operations Team Leader – Expedited & Time-Critical

About the role
C4 Logistics is one of Europe's leading emergency and time-critical transport providers, moving high-value and urgent freight by road and air across the UK and mainland Europe. We're hiring an experienced Team Leader to lead our expedited road freight operations team.
This is a genuine player-manager role. You'll lead a team of European Road Freight Operators day-to-day while remaining hands-on with your own book of live shipments. If you're a strong operator who has already stepped into team leadership and enjoys the pace of expedited work, this role is built for you.
What you'll do
- Lead the operations team on shift: allocating live jobs, prioritising workload, and making the calls on escalations, reroutes, and rate exceptions
- Run your own live shipments alongside the team
- Coach and develop operators on quoting technique, carrier negotiation, customs handling, and problem-solving
- Own service quality: monitoring KPIs, ensuring accurate system updates, and running clean shift handovers
- Work with the in-house customs team on T1s, EU/UK declarations, and complex clearance issues
- Partner with the Managing Director and wider leadership on continuous improvement, process, and team performance
What we're looking for
- 2+ years leading a team in a freight forwarding, transport, or logistics operations environment. You will have allocated work, coached operators, run performance conversations, and been the escalation point on shift
- Solid European road freight forwarding experience as an operator yourself: quoting, carrier negotiation, FTL, part loads, groupage, and coordination with customs
Plus:
- Working knowledge of UK and EU customs processes, Incoterms, and standard forwarding documentation
- Calm and clear under pressure, the desk gets busy, and the team looks to you first
- Confident on numbers: rates, margins, service KPIs
Shift pattern
Standard office hours, Monday–Friday, 08:30–17:30. Occasional flexibility required for shift cover or major escalations.
