Senior Family Law Consultant Solicitor – Team LeadJob Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Family Law Consultant Solicitor to join and lead our growing family law team.
This is a senior consultancy position for a qualified solicitor with substantial experience in family law who can take overall responsibility for the supervision, quality and progression of the team's family law caseload.
The successful candidate will act as thesenior legal lead for the family law department, providing supervision and technical guidance to other members of the team, reviewing files, supporting colleagues with complex matters and ensuring that cases are managed professionally, efficiently and in accordance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
The role will suit a confident and proactive family lawyer who is comfortable taking responsibility for a team, mentoring colleagues and dealing with complex and sensitive family matters while maintaining the highest standards of client care.
Key Responsibilities
- Take senior responsibility for the supervision and management of the family law team's caseload.
- Oversee family law matters from initial instruction through to conclusion.
- Supervise, support and mentor solicitors, fee earners and other members of the family law team.
- Provide day-to-day legal and technical guidance on family law matters.
- Review files and documentation to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with professional standards.
- Provide guidance on complex, sensitive or high-risk cases and assist team members in identifying appropriate legal strategies.
- Monitor case progression, deadlines, hearings and key procedural requirements across the team's caseload.
- Assist with complex negotiations and, where appropriate, advocacy and court proceedings.
- Oversee matters involving divorce, financial remedies, children matters, domestic abuse, separation, cohabitation and other areas of family law relevant to the firm's practice.
- Ensure that appropriate safeguarding and risk-management procedures are followed, particularly in cases involving children, domestic abuse or vulnerable clients.
- Review correspondence, statements, applications, agreements and other legal documentation where appropriate.
- Ensure that client matters are handled sensitively, professionally and with appropriate confidentiality.
- Maintain oversight of workloads and ensure cases are progressing efficiently.
- Conduct regular file reviews and quality checks to maintain high professional standards.
- Support team members with legal research, case strategy and procedural issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant SRA, professional conduct and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with improving systems, procedures and processes within the family law department.
- Work closely with management and the wider team to support the development and growth of the firm's family law practice.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate should have:
- Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales with substantial family law experience.
- Strong practical experience handling family law matters from initial instruction through to conclusion.
- Proven experience supervising, mentoring or managing other legal professionals.
- Strong knowledge of current family law legislation, procedure and best practice.
- Experience dealing with complex and sensitive family law matters.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The confidence to provide legal guidance and supervision to other members of the team.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using case-management systems and legal technology.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and oversee multiple matters simultaneously.
- A professional, approachable and client-focused manner.
- The ability to work independently while providing effective leadership and support to the wider team.
