Job Overview
We are a well-established woodworking and joinery company seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. This is a key commercial role requiring strong technical knowledge of bespoke joinery, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to accurately price projects from initial enquiry through to final account.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and analyse client drawings, specifications, and design information.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for bespoke joinery and woodworking projects.
- Assess labour requirements, including machine shop, bench joinery, finishing, and polishing hours.
- Calculate material quantities and costs, with a strong understanding of timber, sheet materials, ironmongery, finishes, and associated products.
- Liaise directly with clients, architects, designers, and project teams to clarify requirements and provide commercial guidance.
- Monitor and manage project variations, ensuring all client changes are accurately recorded, costed, and communicated.
- Track commercial performance throughout projects and maintain detailed records of additional works and variations.
- Prepare and agree final accounts at project completion.
- Work closely with production and project management teams to ensure estimates reflect current manufacturing methods and costs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material prices, supplier costs, and industry trends.
Requirements
- Previous experience as an Estimator within the joinery, woodworking, cabinet making, or fit-out industry.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Good understanding of machine shop operations, bench joinery, polishing, and finishing processes.
- Knowledge of material costs, manufacturing methods, and labour costing.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project variations and final accounts.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software (preferred).
Pay: From £45,000.00 per year
