Overview
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Senior Support Worker to join our dedicated team. This is a leadership role where you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care while supervising and supporting Support Workers during each shift.
The successful candidate will have experience working within adult social care and be confident in leading shifts, managing medication, reviewing care documentation, and promoting best practice in line with CQC standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate shifts, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred service delivery.
- Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring, and support to Support Workers.
- Administer medication safely and carry out regular medication audits in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Order, monitor, and maintain medication stock, ensuring accurate records and compliance with medication management procedures.
- Review, update, and implement person-centred care plans, support plans, and risk assessments to reflect individuals' changing needs.
- Complete and review Mental Capacity Assessments (MCAs) and support best-interest decision-making in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Promote independence, dignity, choice, equality, and inclusion, ensuring individuals are supported to achieve their personal goals.
- Ensure all care and support activities are delivered in accordance with CQC standards, safeguarding requirements, health and safety legislation, and organisational policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the people we support, their families, advocates, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to promote positive outcomes, transparency, and continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic care records, including daily notes, medication records (MAR charts), incident reports, accident records, and progress notes using the organisation's IT systems.
- Monitor the quality of care delivered, identify areas for improvement, and support the implementation of best practices.
- Support the induction, supervision, training, and development of new and existing staff members.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, safeguarding concerns, and complaints, escalating issues where necessary.
- Participate in team meetings, supervisions, and training to support continuous professional development.
- Work collaboratively with managers and external professionals to ensure high-quality care is delivered at all times.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as directed by the Registered Manager.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care.
- Experience working as a Senior Support Worker or an experienced Support Worker ready to progress.
- Experience leading shifts within a care setting.
- Knowledge and experience of medication administration, medication ordering, and medication audits.
- Experience reviewing care plans and risk assessments.
- Good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and completing Mental Capacity Assessments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.
- Proficiency in using IT systems for record-keeping, reporting, and communication purposes
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to senior care environments
