Group Credit Manager
Paramount Retail Group is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Group Credit Manager to take responsibility for credit management and cash collection across the Group's growing portfolio of businesses.
This is a newly created and highly visible role, offering the opportunity to establish and develop a best-in-class group credit function across a diverse and expanding organisation.
The role will oversee credit activity across the Paramount Retail Group portfolio, with the primary focus initially being DB Foods, one of the Group's largest and most commercially significant businesses.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, Finance, Commercial and Sales teams across the Group, providing strong financial control while maintaining a commercially focused approach to customer relationships.
About Paramount Retail Group
Paramount Retail Group is a UK-owned, family-led investment and operating group with a growing portfolio of established British businesses spanning food, retail, manufacturing and consumer products.
The Group's portfolio includes businesses across meat and food, pet care, confectionery, chocolate, drinks, DIY and other specialist sectors.
Following the acquisition of DB Foods, Paramount has continued to invest significantly in the business, supporting its ambitious growth plans and strengthening its operational and commercial infrastructure.
This role represents an important opportunity to help build the financial infrastructure required to support that continued growth.
The Role
As Group Credit Manager, you will take ownership of the Group's credit management strategy and oversee the effective management of customer ledgers, credit exposure and cash collection.
Initially, a significant proportion of your time will be focused on DB Foods, where you will work closely with the existing Finance and Commercial teams to strengthen credit control, improve cash conversion and ensure robust management of customer exposure.
As the Group continues to grow, the role will develop into a broader group-wide credit function, implementing consistent processes, reporting and controls across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for credit management and cash collection across the Paramount Retail Group.
- Lead the credit function, establishing clear processes, controls and performance standards.
- Have primary responsibility for the DB Foods customer ledger and credit function.
- Develop and implement a consistent Group-wide credit policy.
- Monitor customer exposure, credit limits, payment terms and aged debt.
- Drive improvements in cash collection and debtor performance.
- Proactively manage overdue and high-risk accounts.
- Identify potential bad debt and credit risks and ensure appropriate escalation.
- Work closely with Sales and Commercial teams to balance customer relationships with appropriate credit controls.
- Review and approve credit limits and payment terms in line with agreed authority levels.
- Establish appropriate credit assessment procedures for new customers.
- Produce regular and meaningful credit and debtor reporting for senior management.
- Provide clear visibility of Group-wide debtor performance, cash collection and credit risk.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and automation.
- Work with Finance teams across the Group to ensure accurate and consistent reporting.
- Support cash-flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Develop KPIs and performance measures for credit management.
- Manage, develop and support credit control personnel as the Group function evolves.
- Work with senior leadership to identify and mitigate financial and commercial risks.
- Help establish a scalable credit function capable of supporting future acquisitions and Group growth.
DB Foods – Initial Key Focus
DB Foods will represent the main area of focus for this role initially.
The successful candidate will be expected to gain a detailed understanding of the DB Foods customer base, trading arrangements, credit exposure and existing processes, before implementing improvements where required.
This will include:
- Reviewing the existing debtor book and aged debt profile.
- Assessing customer credit limits and payment terms.
- Improving cash collection performance.
- Strengthening credit approval and escalation procedures.
- Working closely with the DB Foods commercial and finance teams.
- Developing improved management information and reporting.
- Identifying opportunities to reduce debtor days and improve working capital.
- Establishing clear ownership and accountability for outstanding debt.
The longer-term objective will be to build a consistent credit framework across the Paramount Group, allowing individual businesses to retain their commercial identity while benefiting from stronger group-level controls and expertise.
About You
We're looking for an experienced Credit Manager, Group Credit Manager, Head of Credit or senior Credit Controller who is ready to take ownership of a wider group-level function.
You will be commercially astute and comfortable operating in an environment where credit decisions need to balance cash collection, risk management and commercial relationships.
You'll ideally have experience of working within a multi-site, multi-company or acquisitive organisation and be confident dealing with senior stakeholders.
You will have:
- Significant experience in credit management and credit control.
- Experience managing substantial customer ledgers.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk, collections and working capital.
- Experience managing or developing a credit team/function.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- The confidence to challenge customers and internal stakeholders where appropriate.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience producing management information and credit reporting.
- A proactive approach to improving processes and systems.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of a function.
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger commercial picture.
Ideally, you will also have:
- Experience working across multiple businesses or legal entities.
- Experience within an acquisitive or private-equity/family-office backed environment.
- Experience within FMCG, food, wholesale, manufacturing, distribution or retail.
- Experience implementing or improving credit management systems and processes.
- Experience integrating credit functions following acquisitions.
What We're Looking For
This is not simply a role focused on chasing overdue invoices.

You'll be comfortable getting into the detail when required, but equally able to present clear recommendations and insights to senior leadership.
What We Offer
- £55,000 – £70,000 salary, depending on experience.
- Performance-related bonus.
- Hybrid/remote working, with regular attendance required at Paramount Retail Group's Sheffield/Chapeltown operation and Group businesses as required.
- The opportunity to build and lead a Group-level credit function.
- Direct exposure to senior leadership.
- A highly visible role within a growing and acquisitive Group.
- The opportunity to make a measurable impact on cash flow and working capital.
- Significant scope to develop the role as Paramount Retail Group continues to grow.
