Where do you come in?
We are looking for an ambitious HGV Driver (18T Vehicle) for our service station in Huyton, Liverpool.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation & Distribution
- Safely operate an 18-tonne HGV vehicle for the transportation of goods throughout the UK.
- Conduct scheduled deliveries and collections between Viking Life-Saving service stations in:
- Aberdeen
- Liverpool
- Great Yarmouth
- Medway
- Carry out bespoke deliveries and collections from:
- Commercial ports
- Dockside locations
- Shipyards
- Offshore support bases
- Customer facilities
- Vessels alongside berth or in port
Vehicle Operations
- Perform daily vehicle checks and complete all required defect reporting documentation.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness at all times.
- Manage vehicle load security and ensure loads are transported safely and in accordance with legislation.
- Monitor fuel usage and report vehicle maintenance requirements promptly.
Logistics & Documentation
- Complete all delivery notes, collection documents, PODs (Proof of Delivery), and transport records accurately.
- Ensure compliance with Drivers' Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive requirements.
- Use transport management systems, mobile devices, or company software to record deliveries and collections.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, operations teams, and customers regarding delivery schedules and updates.
Customer Service
- Represent Viking Life-Saving professionally when visiting customer sites, ports, terminals, and vessels.
- Build positive working relationships with customers, vessel crews, port personnel, and colleagues.
- Resolve routine delivery issues professionally and escalate concerns when required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures.
- Comply with all road transport legislation and company policies.
- Follow port security protocols and customer-specific site requirements.
- Use appropriate PPE when working within ports, warehouses, vessel environments, and customer locations.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, or safety concerns immediately.
Skills & Experience:
Essential
- Valid Class 2 (Category C) HGV Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Proven experience driving commercial vehicles in a logistics or transport environment.
- Good understanding of Drivers' Hours and Working Time Regulations.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
- Flexible approach to working hours and overnight stays when required.
Desirable
- Experience working within ports, maritime, shipping, or offshore industries.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
- ADR qualification.
- Experience handling safety equipment or specialist industrial products.
- Knowledge of UK port operations and security requirements.

Physical Requirements

- Capable of accessing port, dockside, and vessel environments safely.
Working Hours & Shift Pattern
- Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 16:30
- Friday: 08:00 to 15:00
- Total contracted hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Overtime may be required to meet operational and customer requirements.
- Flexibility is essential due to the nationwide nature of deliveries and collections.
Overnight Stays
- The role will typically require one to two overnight stay per week, dependent upon operational requirements and route planning.
- Overnight stays may be undertaken in the vehicle's night cab/sleeper cab or hotels by prior arrangement.
- A night-out allowance will be paid in accordance with company policy for each authorised overnight stay.
- Drivers are responsible for ensuring suitable and secure parking locations are used during overnight stops, following company procedures and driver safety guidelines.
Additional Travel Requirements
- Regular travel between Viking Life-Saving service stations in Aberdeen, Liverpool, Great Yarmouth and Medway.
- Bespoke collections and deliveries from ports, harbours, shipyards, offshore support bases and vessels throughout the UK.
- Occasional schedule changes may be required to accommodate vessel arrival times, customer requirements and operational priorities.
- This role is ideally suited to a professional driver who enjoys a varied workload, national travel, and working within the maritime and offshore industries while representing Viking Life-Saving Equipment to the highest standards.
You will report to the Supply Chain Manager and be part of the UK teams of VIKING Life-Saving Equipment Ltd with branches in Great Yarmouth, Aberdeen, Medway and Liverpool.
