Job Title - Finance Controller

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Finance Controller to take full ownership of the company’s finance function. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing payroll and supplier payments, monitoring cash flow, producing monthly management accounts, and ensuring the business operates with strong financial controls.
The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team, providing financial insight, ensuring compliance, improving processes, and supporting the company’s continued growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management
- Oversee the day-to-day finance function.
- Manage company cash flow and working capital.
- Produce monthly management accounts.
- Prepare financial reports for directors.
- Monitor company profitability.
- Analyse financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Accounts Payable
- Manage supplier invoices.
- Ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time.
- Monitor recurring payments and subscriptions.
- Maintain supplier records.
- Resolve invoice queries.
Accounts Receivable
- Monitor customer invoices.
- Chase overdue payments.
- Maintain debtor reports.
- Improve cash collection processes.
Payroll
- Process monthly payroll.
- Ensure salaries, pensions and statutory payments are made correctly.
- Maintain payroll records.
- Liaise with payroll providers where applicable.
Financial Controls
- Implement approval processes.
- Authorise payments within agreed limits.
- Monitor expenditure.
- Prevent duplicate or unnecessary spending.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial procedures.
Bookkeeping & Accounting
- Maintain accurate accounting records.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile credit cards and company expenses.
- Maintain fixed asset registers.
- Ensure accurate coding of income and expenditure.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare VAT returns.
- Support Corporation Tax submissions.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Maintain statutory records.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Prepare annual budgets.
- Produce rolling cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor budgets against actual performance.
- Provide recommendations to improve profitability.
Reporting
Produce regular reports including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow
- Budget vs Actual
- Department spend
- Payroll reports
- Aged debtors
- Aged creditors
Systems & Process Improvement
- Improve finance systems and processes.
- Maintain accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar).
- Introduce automation where possible.
- Improve reporting accuracy.
Leadership
- Support senior management with financial decisions.
- Work closely with department managers.
- Build relationships with suppliers and external accountants.
- Assist with financial planning for business growth.
Skills & Experience Essential
- Qualified or Part-Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent preferred).
- 5+ years’ experience in a finance management role.
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards.
- Payroll experience.
- VAT knowledge.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, etc.).
- Strong analytical and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.

Pay: £50,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
