Job Summary
We are a registered charity in Hull providing supported accommodation for the homeless.
We are seeking a dedicated Housing Support Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing support and assisting the homeless with housing-related issues. This position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment, contributing to the well-being of individuals in need of supported housing. The role requires excellent communication skills, organisational ability, and a compassionate approach to service delivery.
Duties
- Engage with the homeless to assess their housing needs and provide tailored support plans
- Communicate with councils and help residents apply for council homes
- Maintain accurate records of client support & interactions and case progress.
- Assist residents in understanding their rights and responsibilities regarding tenancy agreements
- Coordinate with external agencies to facilitate additional support services such as benefits or healthcare
- Monitor tenancy compliance and address issues proactively to prevent homelessness or eviction
- Provide guidance on housing options, including temporary and permanent solutions
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to housing support services
Experience
- Proven experience in housing support, social work, or related fields is desirable
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of residents
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and case management
- Experience of work with the homeless
- Compassionate approach with the ability to build rapport with diverse client groups
- Knowledge of local housing legislation and welfare benefits is beneficial
- Working knowledge of statutory authorities procedures
- Experience of Team Work

The ideal candidate will:
Be qualified to degree level or equivalent, or have extensive experience
Hold a full UK driving licence (essential)
Be able to work on own initiative
Be available for on call cover (evening/night time/weekend - on call for 1 full week every 11 weeks)
Be able to demonstrate a high standard of numeracy
Be capable of meeting challenging situations assertively
Have the ability to implement policies fairly & without prejudice
Be able to demonstrate the ability to assess situations & make appropriate decisions
Possess skills in communicating with and enabling the personal development of residents/tenants
Be able to communicate with statutory & voluntary organisations
Have skills in facilitating & working with groups
Be able to build & maintain relationships with a wide variety of people
Have a willingness to undertake training & development
Have a sense of humour
