Food & Beverage Manager – Full-Time
Char & Barrel Ltd – Hatfield and St Albans, Hertfordshire
Char & Barrel Ltd is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Food & Beverage Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of one of our venues in Hatfield or St Albans.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record in UK hospitality who understands how to run a structured, efficient and profitable restaurant. You should be highly organised, take ownership of responsibilities from start to finish and build systems and teams that perform consistently — whether you are physically present or not.
Pay and Contract type
Pay: £38,000–£45,000 per year, depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus

Hours and availability
- Hours: Full-time, normally 40–45 hours per week, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire and St Albans, Hertfordshire
- Regular weekend availability is essential
- Shifts will include a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend work, scheduled within the operating hours of the relevant venue. Current Hatfield trading hours are
- Sunday–Thursday: 12:00 pm–10:00 pm
- Friday–Saturday: 12:00 pm–11:00 pm
- St Albans operating hours will be confirmed before opening.

Experience required
- Minimum of five years' proven UK hospitality experience, including 2 years of restaurant and food & beverage management
- Proven experience successfully leading, training and developing hospitality teams
- Strong understanding of restaurant operations, staffing, rotas and labour costs
- Good commercial understanding of food and beverage costs, stock, wastage and profitability
- Experience implementing effective systems, procedures and sustainable staff training
- Strong understanding of health & safety, food safety and licensing requirements

Key responsibilitiesRestaurant Operations
- Take ownership of day-to-day operations, ensuring the restaurant runs efficiently, professionally and profitably
- Establish clear systems, structures and processes and ensure tasks are followed through from start to completion
- Lead service, identifying and resolving operational issues proactively
- Work closely with the Kitchen Manager to ensure effective communication between the kitchen, bar and front-of-house teams
- Maintain consistently high standards of service, cleanliness, presentation and compliance
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage and develop a positive, professional and high-performing food and beverage team
- Recruit, onboard, train and develop team members to consistently meet expected standards
- Build sustainable training systems that allow the restaurant to operate effectively without constant management supervision
- Recognise strong and poor performance and provide appropriate coaching, support or performance management
- Build a dependable team through clear expectations, accountability, encouragement and ongoing development
Commercial Performance
- Manage the operation with profitability at the centre of decision-making
- Monitor labour, food and beverage costs, stock and wastage
- Build effective rotas that balance operational requirements, guest experience and labour costs
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control costs and increase revenue
- Use operational data and reporting to make informed commercial decisions
