We're recruiting a Purchasing Manager to join the team at Myers Building & Timber Supplies, Huddersfield.
As a key member of the buying team, the primary purpose of this role is to support the commercial success of Myers Building & Timber Supplies (MBTS) through the effective procurement of products for resale. The role is responsible for developing strong supplier relationships, negotiating competitive commercial agreements, supporting product availability, and contributing to sales growth and margin performance.

What you'll be doing
- Ensure MBTS legal obligations are met in respect of its buying practices
- Proactively and regularly liaise with suppliers to build strong partnerships
- Act as point of contact for Fortis buying group and ensure that relevant category meetings are represented by MBTS
- Liaise with the stock team on stock profiles, order forecasts, min/max levels, order lead times and minimum order quantities to ensure there is sufficient stock to maximise availability
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best cost prices and terms & conditions of supply
- Routinely review supply base, seeking new sources and/or rationalisation opportunities to maintain a competitive advantage and better buying opportunities
- Negotiate support for promotional activity with suppliers
- Negotiate compensation when a supplier breaches the terms and conditions of supply
- In collaboration with the Branch Managers and relevant Category Manager, agree specifications and stock profiles for products purchased
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Experienced professional with a buying background within the construction industry who accepts responsibility and accountability
- CIPS qualified (or equivalent or working towards)
- Strong general product knowledge across the builders' merchant sector, with the ability to identify market opportunities, range developments and commercial advantages
- Strategic thinker with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight schedules
- A professional attitude and demeanour
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
- Experience of trade merchants
- Strong negotiator and dispute resolution skills
