At Margaret Green Animal Rescue, every item sold in our charity shops helps fund rescue, care and enrichment for animals who need a second chance. We're looking for a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Assistant Shop Manager to support the Shop Manager in the successful day-to-day running of our busy Wareham shop.
What this role is really about
This role is about supporting the Shop Manager to deliver an excellent shopping experience, maximise income and create a welcoming environment for customers and volunteers.
You will help ensure the shop operates efficiently and, in the Shop Manager's absence, confidently take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the store.
Your main duties will include
- Supporting the Shop Manager with the day-to-day running of the Wareham shop.
- Supervising the shop and taking responsibility in the Shop Manager's absence.
- Helping to recruit, train, support and motivate volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued.
- Sorting, pricing and merchandising donated stock to maximise sales.
- Delivering outstanding customer service and creating a welcoming shopping environment.
- Monitoring stock levels and helping maintain attractive displays throughout the shop.
- Assisting with sales targets and identifying opportunities to improve performance.
- Handling cash, banking and paperwork accurately in line with charity procedures.
- Ensuring high standards of presentation, cleanliness, health & safety and security.
- Supporting local fundraising activities and promoting Margaret Green Animal Rescue within the community.
We'd love to hear from you if you…
- Have previous retail experience.
- Have supervisory or team leader experience (desirable but not essential).
- Enjoy working with and supporting people.
- Are organised, reliable and happy to work in a hands-on environment.
- Have a good eye for merchandising and customer service.
- Are flexible and able to work on a rota basis, including weekends.
- Care about animal welfare and supporting a local charity.
Experience working with volunteers or in charity retail would be an advantage but isn't essential—we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, initiative and a genuine passion for making a difference.
