About the Role
Speedel is a growing time-critical logistics company specialising in UK Same Day, European Express and worldwide On-Board Courier services.
We are looking for an experienced Customs Clearance Agent / Transport Coordinator to join our Leicester team.
Your primary responsibility will be completing and managing customs declarations for our international shipments. You will also support our Transport Operations team with live UK and European shipments and wider operational requirements.
As we operate a 24/7 time-critical logistics service, flexibility is important. While this is primarily an office-based role during normal working hours, you will be expected to provide reasonable out-of-hours support when required for urgent customs clearances, international shipments or operational issues.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance
- Prepare and submit UK import and export customs declarations.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists and customs documentation.
- Ensure accurate commodity codes, customs values and procedure information.
- Manage UK–EU customs requirements, including GVMS/GMRs where applicable.
- Support T1/transit movements and ATA Carnets.
- Liaise with customers, HMRC, customs agents and transport partners.
- Resolve missing documentation and customs clearance issues.
- Maintain accurate customs records and ensure compliance.
- Help develop and improve Speedel’s in-house customs processes.
Transport Operations
Alongside your customs responsibilities, you will support our fast-paced transport operation, helping ensure time-critical shipments are managed efficiently from booking through to delivery.
- Coordinate UK and European time-critical shipments, liaising with customers, drivers and transport partners from collection through to delivery.
- Prepare quotations and allocate work to drivers and suppliers.
- Proactively monitor live shipments, provide customer updates and resolve delays or operational issues as they arise.
- Ensure job information, costs and documentation are accurately recorded within our systems.
- Work closely with the wider Operations team to manage workload and maintain a high level of customer service.
- Be flexible in supporting the wider business, including providing reasonable out-of-hours assistance when required for urgent or time-critical shipments.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Previous hands-on experience completing customs declarations.
- Good knowledge of UK import and export procedures.
- Experience using customs clearance software.
- Understanding of CDS, commodity codes and customs documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced logistics environment.
- A flexible approach to working hours and willingness to provide occasional out-of-hours support when business needs require it.
Desirable:
- Experience using ASM Sequoia.
- Knowledge of T1/NCTS and transit procedures.
- Experience with GVMS/GMRs.
- Experience with ATA Carnets.
- Previous road freight, same day courier or transport operations experience.
Previous practical customs clearance experience is required. Training will be provided on Speedel’s transport operation.
