We're looking for a brilliant new person to join our small team at Norris Master Florists.
And no - you don't need to be a florist.
We're much more interested in finding someone who's switched on, good with people, naturally organised and enjoys helping things run smoothly.
This is a varied role working across our retail shop and floral design studio. On a typical day you might be looking after customers, taking orders, replenishing the shop, unpacking deliveries, preparing flowers or organising the stockroom.
At other times you might be preparing the studio for a workshop, sorting glassware after an event, helping prepare a wedding or loading the van for one of our larger projects.
We're a small team, so everyone mucks in.
You might be just who we're looking for if you...
- are switched on and naturally notice what's happening around you
- take things on board and are good at remembering how things are done
- tend to think a step ahead and spot what might be needed next
- are warm, confident and genuinely enjoy dealing with people
- communicate well and keep others in the loop
- are reliable and take pride in doing things properly
- like being organised and creating order
- are comfortable using your initiative while knowing when to ask
- are happy getting stuck into practical jobs
- enjoy learning new things
- get a certain amount of satisfaction from simply being useful and helping things run well
Experience in retail, hospitality, customer service, administration or another busy working environment would be useful, but we're keeping an open mind about background.
Do I need floristry experience?
No.
We'll teach you the flower care, conditioning, wrapping and basic floral skills you'll need for the role. Over time, we'd also like you to develop the skills to make straightforward hand-tied bouquets in our house style.
If you already have floristry experience, we'd be very happy to hear from you too.
What will I actually be doing?
The role combines three main areas:
Customer service & retail - looking after customers, taking orders, processing sales, wrapping purchases and helping keep the shop beautifully presented.
Shop & studio support - receiving deliveries, replenishing stock, keeping an eye on sundries, conditioning flowers and helping keep our working spaces organised.
Practical support - preparing the studio for workshops, organising event equipment and glassware, helping prepare weddings and events, and occasionally loading or unloading the van.
It's an active role and there are plenty of practical jobs alongside the beautiful ones. Flowers are lovely; flower buckets considerably less so. Everyone gets stuck in.
When will I work?
Saturday is the core working day and regular Saturday availability is essential.
There will also be opportunities for occasional additional weekday hours depending on business needs, particularly around events and larger projects.
Some additional availability during our key trading periods - including Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day - will be important.
Additional hours will be discussed in advance.
