Freelance Massage Therapist
The Bath Massage Company
Trusted since 2010 — expert hands-on massage in the heart of Bath
Location: Bath (treatment rooms at Charles Street - central Bath location)
Job type: Freelance / Self-employed, Independent Contractor
Availability: Fridays and Saturdays required, potential for additional days particularly afternoons / evenings
Pay: Competitive per-treatment rates (weekday and Saturday rates apply) — details shared at interview
About us
Bath has been a place of healing for over two thousand years, and that tradition runs through everything we do. The Bath Massage Company is a warm, well-run practice in the heart of the city, built on real relationships — with our clients, and with each other. We're a small, friendly team, and we care about our therapists doing their finest work in an environment where they can genuinely thrive.
We're looking for a qualified, client-focused massage therapist to join our community on a self-employed, freelance basis, working from our beautiful, well-equipped treatment rooms.
The role
As a Freelance Massage Therapist, you'll deliver safe, professional treatments to your own client base, manage your bookings and client relationships, and keep your treatment room clean, tidy and ready for each session. You'll work as part of our friendly team but also independently, agreeing your own hours with us in advance, while following our venue standards and client care procedures. We're currently looking for someone to cover Fridays and Saturdays, with the potential for additional days for the right person.
Growing with us
We believe a therapist doing what they're truly best at is what clients feel on the couch — so we want to support you to grow, not just fill a rota slot. As you build your own client base with us and turn new clients into loyal regulars, there's real scope to progress: increasing commission as your regular client base grows, with an eventual move towards a room-rate model for our most established therapists further down the line. We're still shaping the details of this together as the practice grows, and we'll talk you through our current thinking at the interview.
Key responsibilities
Client care
- Deliver safe, professional massage and holistic treatments in line with your training, qualifications and our standards
- Take responsibility for your clients: rebooking, ongoing experience and care
- Contact clients directly if they're running late; notify us if you can't reach them
- Record any no-shows in the booking system and let us know
- Complete and maintain accurate client consultation forms and treatment records on our booking system
Venue and equipment
- Keep your treatment room tidy: empty bins, wash and dry glasses/cups, put items away after each use
- Hoover and/or steam mop the room and leave it clean and ready for the next booking
- Report any repairs needed or broken equipment promptly
- Let us know when supplies (oils, couch roll, linens, etc.) are running low
- Take reasonable care of carpets and furnishings, managing any spillages
Professional standards
- Hold current professional membership and insurance appropriate to your treatments, and provide evidence on request
- Comply with health, safety, hygiene and infection-control standards at the venue
- Keep your clinical skills and knowledge up to date through CPD
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times
Scheduling and availability
- Agree your working hours with us and discuss any changes in advance
- Give at least 2 weeks' notice of planned holiday or time away
- Notify us as soon as possible if you're unable to work due to illness
What we're looking for
- A recognised massage therapy / holistic therapy qualification
- Current, valid professional insurance and membership of an appropriate professional body
- Experience providing client-facing therapeutic treatments in a professional setting
- Excellent client care, communication and time-keeping
- Ability to work independently and manage your own bookings and client relationships
- A tidy, conscientious approach to shared treatment rooms and equipment
- Comfortable using online booking/scheduling apps
- Access to your own laptop is useful (though not essential) — our booking system works better on a laptop than on mobile
Nature of the role
This is a self-employed, freelance position. You'll be an independent contractor, not an employee or worker of the Company, responsible for your own tax and National Insurance. Full terms are set out in our Freelance Therapist Agreement, provided on engagement.
Sound like you?
If you'd love to be part of a nurturing, community-minded practice where your growth matters as much as your clients' wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: £30.00-£40.00 per hour
Licence/Certification:
- A recognised massage therapy qualification (required)
