Communications Officer – Grade G (Marketing)
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, Mon – Fri (Flexi-time: core hours 10am – 4pm)
Contract: Temporary (3 August 2026 – 31 August 2027)
Pay Rate: £17.18 per hour
Location: The Council House, Derby, DE1 2FS
Work Pattern: Hybrid – minimum 1 day per week in the office, occasional evenings/weekends
We're recruiting a Communications Officer to join Council's Communications and Marketing division. This is a creative and dynamic role, ideal for someone with strong PR skills, excellent writing ability, and experience managing media relations.
About the Role
As a Communications Officer, you'll develop and deliver insight-based, creative promotional campaigns that support the Council's business objectives. You'll also work on the busy media desk, liaising with local and national press, and supporting internal communications channels.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing promotional campaigns aligned with Council objectives
- Managing media desk activity and liaising with press
- Writing press releases and news articles with a strong news sense
- Organising and attending photocalls and media events
- Supporting internal communications across Council channels
- Filming and editing short videos for campaigns (desirable)
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with:
- Strong PR and media management skills
- Excellent literacy, copywriting, and proofreading ability
- Experience of delivering communications campaigns and evaluating impact
- Confidence in liaising with press and stakeholders
- Creative flair and interest in video production (desirable)
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends
