Duty Manager
Big Sky Soft Play & Party Centre – Peterborough
Full-time / Part-time | Including weekends | Ongoing training & development
Are you a confident, energetic people-person who loves creating great experiences for families? Do you enjoy leading a team, solving problems and getting stuck in?
Big Sky Soft Play & Party Centre is looking for a Duty Manager to join our growing team in Peterborough.
We’re a busy children’s soft play and party venue, open 7 days a week. Alongside daily drop-in play, activities and special events, we host children’s parties throughout the week. Our aim is simple: to provide children with a safe, fun and engaging place to play, while giving parents a welcoming place to relax and enjoy great food and drink.
About the Role
As Duty Manager, you’ll work closely with the Operations Manager to help run the centre smoothly, safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on management role. No two days are the same, and we’re looking for someone who is happy to roll up their sleeves and get involved — whether that’s leading a busy team, dealing with customers, checking the play equipment or helping prepare for a party.
You’ll be responsible for helping to ensure our customers have a fantastic experience while supporting and motivating the team around you.
Your Responsibilities
- Support the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the centre
- Open and close the building
- Carry out daily health & safety and operational checks
- Monitor the centre and ensure children are playing safely
- Lead, support and motivate the team during busy periods
- Help create a positive, fun and friendly working environment
- Assist with the induction and training of new team members
- Ensure company policies, procedures and legal requirements are followed
- Manage cash handling and end-of-day cashing up
- Take party bookings, confirm details and help prepare the centre for busy weekends
- Support the smooth running of children’s parties and events
- Help maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service
Get Involved Beyond the Day-to-Day
There will also be opportunities to get involved in areas such as:
Social Media
Help create and manage social media campaigns, promotions and event content under the direction of the Operations Manager and Directors.
Events
Help plan and deliver seasonal events including Halloween, Christmas, Easter, summer events and new events throughout the year.
Marketing
Support local marketing activity, including print advertising, promotions and other marketing campaigns.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Outgoing, friendly and fun
- Confident leading and motivating a team
- Naturally customer-focused
- Well-presented and professional
- Self-motivated and able to use their initiative
- A confident problem solver who stays calm under pressure
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Happy to be hands-on and get involved wherever needed
- Numerate, with a good standard of English and Maths
- Comfortable using email, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Familiar with POS systems (desirable)
- Experienced in a management or supervisory role
Experience
You’ll have at least 2 years’ experience in a management or supervisory position, with experience leading a team.
Experience within leisure, hospitality, retail, family entertainment or a similarly fast-paced customer-facing environment would be an advantage.
