Porvair Sciences Limited (PSL) is a global leader in porous technologies for filtration and separation across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life science and industrial sectors.
The Maintenance Technician will ensure the safe, reliable operation and upkeep of bespoke and highly customised manufacturing equipment, incorporating electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum and hydraulic systems. The role also supports the development, installation and validation of new equipment and processes, working closely with Engineering, Production and Workshop teams. Process specific training will be provided.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
o To be a technical lead, supporting production to achieve manufacturing excellence.
o Perform maintenance activities safely to the required standard whilst managing costs.
o Ensure that production equipment is maintained and repaired to ensure it can manufacture products safely and efficiently to the appropriate quality standards.
o Create, maintain and implement proactive maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance routines to maximise machine and process uptime.
o Review and analyse downtime trends to ensure maintenance methods and routines are optimised such that maximum overall equipment effectiveness is achieved.
o Be actively involved in continuous improvement.
o Manage equipment and spares by the most economical means.
o Work with production personnel to develop and implement standard manufacturing methods and the correct use of equipment.
o Work closely with production to devise and implement best practice for existing and new products.
o Actively support and participate with introduction of new processes and equipment.
o Present regular progress reports to line manager, project leader or senior management team and escalating any issues.
o Provide support to the relevant managers and team leaders in developing, implementing and providing training for new employees and supplementary training to existing employees.
o Ensure all health and safety, manufacturing and quality systems are maintained, and the appropriate systems are updated with current data.
Essential Qualifications:
· A time served (C&G) industrial electrical engineer with maintenance experience within a modern manufacturing environment.
· 18th Edition Wiring regulations certificate
· Prior knowledge and experience of maintenance systems and processes.
· Working knowledge of Electrical control systems including PLC programming and diagnostics, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Vacuum & Hydraulic systems.
Desirable Qualifications:
· HNC/HNC Engineering discipline
· Experience of 3 phase drive and heating control systems
· Experience with Plastics manufacturing systems
· Experience of Lean manufacturing and modern quality techniques
Accountable for:
· Maintenance, New Product & Process Introduction
Experience Required:
· Strong background in maintenance activities in a modern manufacturing environment.
· A good track record in problem solving, communication and working effectively in a small, dynamic team
Personal Skills Required:
· TRAINING & LEARNING PERIOD: The learning process is continuous, and a suitably qualified candidate would be expected to carry out all key tasks, with reasonable competence, after 3 months.
· RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE: The job holder will be called upon to liaise with contractors and company representatives to oversee their activities whilst on site. The job holder will advise on quality and H&S standards and how to safely and correctly use new or modified plant and equipment. The role has no direct reports.
· DECISION MAKING: The job holder is relied upon to determine the best course of action when corrective measures are called for. Problems will arise to which solutions are not always readily apparent, and the job holder must often rely on detailed knowledge of the processes and the equipment and materials in use, as well as a degree of ingenuity, to overcome them.
· RESPONSIBILITY FOR PLANT AND EQUIPMENT: Detailed knowledge of each item of plant or equipment is essential, so as to minimise the potential for poor product quality, damage or injury due to inappropriate use.
· WORKING CONDITIONS: The job holder can be called upon to work in any part of the factory or offices and be responsible for the maintenance of the building facilities.
· COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION: The job holder is required to keep accurate records of work carried out for future reference and, from time to time, will need to gather data, compile and submit reports on which important management decisions may be based. Verbal communication on complex issues with operators, management, senior management, customers, suppliers and contractors is a regular feature of the job.
