We’re looking for a confident, reliable front-of-house team member to work across tap.social and socialbar, our two independent venues opposite one another on Saxmundham High Street.
tap.social is a brand-new, relaxed and independent taproom with a friendly local clientele. socialbar is our sister café, wine bar and cultural space, serving speciality coffee and food by day, and wine, cocktails and events in the evening.
Our style of hospitality is warm, thoughtful and informal, but always professional. We want customers to feel comfortable, recognised and well looked after. This is not a loud, high-volume or late-night bar environment, and the role would best suit someone who enjoys creating a calm, convivial atmosphere rather than a rowdy one.
The role may involve working across both venues regularly, occasionally or as cover, so it would suit someone who enjoys variety and can adapt easily.
Experience required
You should have at least one of the following:
- Bar experience, including confidently changing and connecting kegs or casks
OR
- Strong coffee barista experience and a willingness to learn the taproom side of the role
Training can be provided, but applicants with neither bar nor barista experience are unlikely to be suitable. We are particularly interested in people who:
- Are warm, personable and naturally attentive
- Understand how to be friendly without becoming overfamiliar
- Communicate calmly and respectfully with a wide range of customers
- Use initiative and maintain high standards without close supervision
- Contribute positively to the atmosphere of a small independent venue
The role includes serving customers, using the till, changing kegs or casks, making coffee where required, restocking, cleaning, opening and closing and keeping both venues welcoming and well run.
Because you may sometimes be solely responsible for the venue and alcohol service, applicants must be aged 18 or over. You will need the confidence, presence and sound judgement to deal calmly and firmly with any challenging customers or situations, without escalating them.
Working pattern
Available shifts may include:
- Sunday: 11.30am–4.30pm
- Wednesday–Friday: 4.30pm–10.30pm
- Saturday: 1.30pm–10.30pm
The successful candidate may work some or all of these shifts, depending on availability and the needs of both venues.
Living in Saxmundham or very nearby is strongly preferred, as the role may include occasional short-notice cover and finishing times may vary depending on trade.
Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
- Discounted or free food
- Employee discount
- Health & wellbeing programme
- Sick pay
- Store discount
Application question(s):
- Tell us about a craft beer you particularly enjoy and what you like about it. Equally, you could tell us about a barista-made drink that blew you away.
- How would you help maintain a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere while still dealing confidently with inappropriate or difficult customer behaviour?
