Job Purpose
To provide high-quality care and education for children aged 0–5 years, following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and Montessori principles. The successful candidate will create a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.
Key ResponsibilitiesChildcare and Learning
- Provide outstanding care and education for all children in your key group and throughout the nursery.
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging learning experiences based on children's interests and developmental needs.
- Support children's emotional, social, physical and intellectual development.
- Promote independence, confidence and respect in line with Montessori philosophy.
- Observe, assess and record children's learning and development using the nursery's assessment systems.
- Complete accurate observations, next steps and learning journeys within required timescales.
- Ensure all children are treated as individuals and their diverse backgrounds are respected.
Key Person Responsibilities
- Act as a Key Person for an allocated group of children.
- Build positive relationships with children and their families.
- Complete settling-in procedures and ongoing developmental assessments.
- Monitor children's progress and identify any additional support needs.
- Work closely with parents to share information about their child's development and wellbeing.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection at all times.
- Follow all nursery policies, procedures and statutory guidance.
- Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Ensure children's health, safety and wellbeing remain the highest priority.
Health and Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe and stimulating learning environment.
- Carry out daily risk assessments and report hazards promptly.
- Follow infection control, food hygiene and health and safety procedures.
- Administer first aid where qualified and required.
Team Working
- Work effectively as part of the nursery team.
- Support colleagues to maintain a positive working environment.
- Attend staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement within the nursery.
Professional Standards
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Act as a positive role model for children, families and colleagues.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
- Keep knowledge up to date through continuous professional development.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
Essential Requirements
- Some knowledge of the EYFS Framework.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Passion for supporting children's learning and development.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working within a Montessori setting.
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- SEND knowledge or experience.
- Experience using online learning journals.
