Want to take ownership of a business and genuinely make a difference?
Cheshire Building Plastics is an independent and growing building plastics and trade supplies business based in Northwich.
We’re looking for a hands-on, commercially driven Branch Manager who wants more than simply managing the day-to-day running of an established branch.
This is an opportunity for someone to take real ownership, grow the business and directly benefit from the success they help create.
You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, develop customer relationships and identify new opportunities — but you’ll also be right at the heart of the branch every day.
This isn’t a desk-based management role.
You’ll be serving customers, answering calls, quoting, following up enquiries, talking to suppliers, keeping an eye on stock and working alongside the team.
We want someone who leads from the front, knows what’s happening in their branch and takes responsibility for its performance.
The opportunity
CBP already has an established customer base and a strong platform to build from.
We now want someone who can look at the business, identify where the opportunities are and help take it to the next level.
That could mean developing existing accounts, bringing in new trade customers, increasing product ranges, improving purchasing, protecting margin or simply making sure we’re maximising every opportunity that comes through the door.
You’ll work directly with the business owner and have genuine input into how the branch develops.
For someone ambitious and commercially minded, there’s considerable scope to put your own stamp on the business.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll take overall responsibility for the performance of the branch while remaining actively involved in its everyday operation.
This will include:
· Taking ownership of branch sales, gross margin and profitability
· Serving customers on the trade counter
· Answering calls and dealing with customer enquiries
· Producing quotes and proactively following them through to order
· Building strong relationships with existing trade customers
· Actively developing new trade accounts and new business
· Identifying opportunities to increase customer spend
· Managing pricing and customer discounts
· Buying effectively and developing supplier relationships
· Managing stock levels and stock accuracy
· Overseeing windows, doors and other bespoke orders
· Supporting the processing of orders and general branch administration
· Coordinating and supporting deliveries
· Managing, supporting and developing the branch team
· Maintaining a professional, organised and well-presented trade counter and warehouse
· Resolving problems rather than passing them on
· Looking for new products, customers and opportunities to grow the business
· Working directly with the Directors on the future development of CBP
We’re looking for someone who…
Takes ownership.
You’ll be given autonomy, but with that comes accountability. You’ll know your sales figures, understand your margins and know what’s happening with your customers, stock and team.
Gets involved.
This isn’t about sitting in an office and delegating everything to the team. When the counter is busy, you’ll serve. When the phone rings, you’ll answer it. When a customer needs a quote, you’ll help get it done.
Is commercially minded.
We want someone who understands that increasing turnover is only worthwhile if we’re also protecting margin and making money.
Wants to grow something.
This role would particularly suit someone who has ideas, drive and ambition and wants the opportunity to make a noticeable difference to a business.
About you
Experience within building plastics, builders merchants, roofing supplies, windows & doors, timber, plumbing/heating merchants or another trade-focused environment would be particularly valuable.
You might currently be a:
· Branch Manager
· Assistant Branch Manager
· Trade Counter Manager
· Merchant Sales Manager
· Senior Trade Salesperson ready for the next step
We’re more interested in finding the right commercial attitude and work ethic than simply the right job title.
You’ll ideally be:
· Commercially minded and sales driven
· Confident working with turnover, margin and profit targets
· Proactive and comfortable generating new business
· Excellent at building relationships with trade customers
· Hands-on and willing to get stuck in
· Organised and comfortable managing stock and purchasing
· A strong communicator
· Able to lead and develop a small team
· Comfortable making decisions
· Accountable and dependable
· Someone who spots opportunities rather than waiting to be told what to do
Salary & profit-related bonus
£32,000–£35,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
Alongside the basic salary, we’re offering a strong profit-related bonus with genuine earning potential.
We want the person responsible for growing CBP to share in the success they create.
If you increase sales, protect margin, control costs and grow the profitability of the branch, your earning potential will grow with it.
For the right person who can make a real commercial impact, there is the opportunity to earn significantly above the basic salary.
Why join Cheshire Building Plastics?
We’re an independent business, so you won’t be restricted by layers of management or decisions being made by a distant head office.
We’re not looking for someone to simply maintain what we’ve already got.
We’re looking for someone who wants to take ownership, get involved, grow the branch and help us build a significantly bigger and more profitable business.
If you’re the type of person who enjoys looking at a business and thinking “I know what I could do with this”, we’d really like to hear from you.
Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
