Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Yard PDI Operative to join our team. This hands-on role involves carrying out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) on scissor lifts, cherry pickers, and other access equipment to ensure they meet safety and operational standards before being dispatched to customers.
You’ll also be responsible for loading and unloading lorries, checking fuel levels, and ensuring hybrid machines are charged and ready for use. Working closely with the Workshop Manager you’ll help maintain efficient operations and a high standard of equipment readiness.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) on a range of access equipment (MEWPs), including scissor lifts and cherry pickers.
- Check machines for safety, functionality, cleanliness, and operational readiness prior to delivery.
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks
- Topping up diesel or fuel tanks
- Charging electric and hybrid-powered machines
- Checking fluid levels (oil, hydraulic, coolant)
- Load and unload lorries safely using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Ensure machines are securely positioned and ready for transport.
- Maintain accurate inspection and handover documentation.
- Report any faults or defects to the workshop team promptly.
- Assist with general yard duties including:
- Organising and storing equipment
- Keeping the yard area clean, tidy, and compliant with health and safety standards
- Communicate effectively with drivers, engineers, and the yard team to ensure smooth workflow.
- Follow all company procedures and health & safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a yard, mechanical, or equipment handling role (preferred but not essential – full training provided).
- Comfortable working around plant or access equipment (MEWPs).
- Physically fit and able to work in outdoor environments in all weather.
- A basic understanding of hybrid/electric machines and charging procedures (training can be given).
- Ability to follow checklists and maintain clear, accurate records.
- Team player with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Forklift or MEWP license is desirable (training can be arranged).
