Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and technical detailing of mechanical systems and components for materials handling equipment. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role ensures designs meet functional, safety, manufacturability, and quality requirements. The position involves close collaboration with manufacturing, operations, and project teams to support new build, refurbishment, and aftermarket initiatives.
The main duties of the role are, but not limited to:
· production of design layouts and manufacturing drawings for the individual requirements of cranes and material handling applications
· production of calculations in line with recognised standards as required
· Produce purchase specification and liaise with suppliers
· Review and check 'in-house' and 'outsourced' detail drawing work
· Adhere to the design review process.
· Deliver projects in line with customer requirements and business cost, quality and programme targets
· Attend Customer sites when necessary
· Attend training courses when necessary
Any other duties as directed by line management which are within the trainees’ capabilities.
Key accountabilities
· Contribution to the performance of technical content of project to time, budget and quality
· Interface with production, procurement, installation and commissioning
Working towards the achievement of required academic qualification.
Education and qualifications
Minimum B/TEC level 3 national diploma in mechanical engineering
Experience and Key competencies
Ideally to have:
· The ability to be proactive in own learning to successfully achieve desired results required at the end of the training period.
· Good communication skills (verbal and written).
· Excellent IT Skills including AutoCAD & Inventor.
· Knowledge of medium to heavy engineering through practical achievements to date.
Must be eligible to work in the UK and complete all necessary paperwork as required in order to gain the required security clearance to work at certain sites outside of the Leeds office (main base/location). Such paperwork must be completed within the time frame given.
Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
