Quality Engineer – Plastic Injection Moulding | Derby | Up to £35,000 | Permanent
Capella Industrial are recruiting on behalf of an established manufacturing business specialising in plastic injection moulding and precision components, supplying high-quality products into a range of demanding industries.
We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join the team and play a key role in maintaining quality standards, resolving production issues and driving continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation.
The Role
Working closely with Production, Engineering, Tooling and QHSE teams, you will be responsible for identifying quality issues, improving processes and ensuring products consistently meet customer and technical requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting first-off, in-process and final inspections.
- Investigating non-conformances, defects, scrap, rework and customer complaints.
- Leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Analysing quality data and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Improving injection moulding process stability and reducing variation.
- Supporting SPC, MSA, capability studies and validation activities.
- Supporting new product introduction, mould trials and process validation.
- Maintaining Control Plans, FMEA, inspection standards and quality documentation.
- Supporting PPAP, ISIR and FAI submissions where required.
- Supporting internal, customer and supplier audits.
- Working with production teams to improve right-first-time performance and reduce scrap.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience within a Quality Engineer, Quality Assurance or technical manufacturing role.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001.
- Experience with quality tools including 8D, 5 Whys and Root Cause Analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and technical specifications.
- Experience using measurement and inspection equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- A hands-on approach with the confidence to work directly on the shop floor.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience within plastic injection moulding or plastics manufacturing.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC and MSA.
- Experience with mould trials, process validation or new product introduction.
- Experience within automotive, medical, packaging or precision component manufacturing.
- Experience with CMM, vision systems or other advanced inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 or other sector-specific quality standards.
