Trafford Leisure is looking for a passionate Freelance Inclusive Exercise Instructor to join the team.
Location: Sale Leisure Centre
Hours: Thursday 11:30 – 12:30
Rate: £23 per hour
The Role:
Are you passionate about helping others move more and live healthier, happier lives? Trafford Leisure is looking for an Inclusive Exercise Instructor to deliver fun, accessible, chair-based sessions and light, game-based activities for adults with learning and physical disabilities.
Participants attending these sessions have a wide range of abilities and support needs. While carers and support workers will be present to provide individual assistance where required, you will need to be comfortable adapting activities and communication styles to ensure sessions are inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone.
This role requires an approachable and adaptable individual who can communicate clearly and sensitively with participants, carers, support staff, and partner organisations. You’ll need to be flexible in your delivery style, ensuring activities are responsive to the needs and abilities of the group.
While sessions are primarily chair-based, elements of light games and inclusive sports are also incorporated to promote enjoyment, coordination, confidence, and teamwork.
You will receive 10 weeks of support and guidance from local inclusive provider Beyond Empower and the Trafford Adult Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) to help transfer your knowledge and expertise into the field of inclusive exercise, with ongoing support available thereafter as required.
For the right person, this is an exciting opportunity to develop new skills, support Trafford Leisure’s inclusive offer, and provide opportunities for people who often face barriers to participating in physical activity.
As an Inclusive Exercise Instructor, your key responsibilities will be:
- Deliver high-quality chair-based exercise sessions tailored to adults with learning and physical disabilities.
- Incorporate light games and adapted activities to encourage enjoyment, coordination, confidence, and teamwork.
- Communicate clearly and sensitively with participants, carers, support staff, and partner organisations.
- Adapt activities to meet individual and group needs, ensuring sessions are safe, welcoming, and inclusive.
- Maintain accurate registers and progress records.
As an Inclusive Exercise Instructor, you will have:
- Experience delivering chair-based exercise sessions.
- An approachable, adaptable, and inclusive approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- Confidence working with people who have a range of physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and support needs.
- The ability to remain calm and positive in a variety of situations.
Requirements:
- Relevant fitness or exercise qualification.
- Public Liability Insurance.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness for Trafford Leisure to arrange this for you).
