We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Production Manager to oversee and coordinate our day-to-day manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with other managers and departments to plan, manage and optimise the company’s overall production activities. You will be responsible for ensuring that customer orders are manufactured efficiently, safely and to the required quality standards, while meeting agreed production deadlines and cost targets.
This is a hands-on management role requiring strong leadership, production planning and manufacturing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and oversee daily manufacturing and production activities.
- Work closely with other managers and departments to ensure production requirements are effectively planned and communicated.
- Develop and maintain production schedules to ensure customer orders are completed within agreed deadlines.
- Allocate labour, materials and resources to meet production requirements.
- Establish and maintain appropriate production and quality standards.
- Monitor work-in-progress and ensure production targets are achieved.
- Estimate production costs, resource requirements and manufacturing timescales.
- Monitor production performance, efficiency and costs.
- Identify production issues or delays and adjust schedules where necessary.
- Supervise production staff, allocate workloads and monitor individual and team performance.
- Ensure finished products meet customer specifications, quality standards and operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate production records, schedules and management reports.
- Implement and maintain lean manufacturing principles to improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Manage material requirements and support effective Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
- Ensure all Health & Safety procedures and company policies are followed throughout the production environment.
- Coordinate routine servicing, maintenance and repair of production machinery and equipment.
- Identify training requirements and organise relevant training and development for production employees.
- Work continuously to improve manufacturing processes, productivity, quality and operational efficiency.
Skills & Knowledge Required
The successful candidate should have:
- A good understanding of metal manufacturing and production processes.
- Basic understanding of patterns and grading within the metal industry.
- Strong knowledge of production planning and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
- Excellent understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
- Good commercial awareness, including the ability to calculate production costs, resource requirements, margins and wholesale costs.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly for production schedules, work-in-progress monitoring and reporting.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong leadership and people-management abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple production priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Experience
- A minimum of 3–5 years' relevant production or manufacturing management experience is required.
- Previous experience within the metal manufacturing, fabrication, window, door, glass or related manufacturing industry would be advantageous.
- Previous responsibility for managing production teams, schedules and manufacturing targets is preferred.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a relevant qualification in manufacturing, production management, engineering or a related industry discipline.
Equivalent practical industry experience may also be considered.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a proactive and commercially aware Production Manager who can lead from the front, maintain high standards and ensure that production operates efficiently and consistently.
The successful candidate will be confident managing people, production schedules, materials and manufacturing processes while maintaining a strong focus on quality, productivity, cost control and Health & Safety.
Pay: £55,150.00 per year
