Volunteer Role Description
The Outreach & Engagement Lead is responsible for developing East Coast Pride’s connections across the community, building strong, meaningful relationships with local charities, public services, and community partners.
They will lead the charity’s outreach and engagement activity, ensuring that Pride’s values of inclusion, wellbeing, and belonging extend beyond the annual event and reach individuals and groups across the East Coast throughout the year.
Working closely with health, education, and community organisations (including NHS services), the postholder will help shape East Coast Pride’s year-round engagement programme, support signposting to relevant services, and identify collaborative projects that enhance visibility, inclusion, and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Person Specification
- Experience in community engagement, outreach, or partnership development, ideally within a charity, public service, or local authority setting.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills with a friendly, empathetic approach.
- Understanding of LGBTQIA+ inclusion, health inequalities, and community needs in coastal and rural settings.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about signposting and referral pathways for NHS and wellbeing services.
- Organised, proactive, and able to balance multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to East Coast Pride’s values of equality, diversity, inclusion, and community celebration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an annual outreach and engagement plan aligned to East Coast Pride’s charitable objectives.
- Build partnerships with local charities, voluntary groups, and community organisations to collaborate on outreach and wellbeing projects.
- Work with NHS, mental health, and wellbeing services to create and promote effective signposting routes for LGBTQIA+ people seeking advice or support.
- Represent East Coast Pride at community meetings, forums, and partnership events.
- Coordinate outreach volunteers to attend local events, community spaces, and schools to increase visibility and engagement.
- Identify new partnership opportunities that extend East Coast Pride’s reach and impact across the region.
- Support diversity and inclusion initiatives, ensuring Pride’s outreach reflects the needs of all parts of the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Fundraising Teams to promote outreach projects, campaigns, and success stories.
- Report regularly to the Board of Trustees on community engagement activities, partnerships, and outcomes.
Key Information
- Remuneration: The role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed where finances and allocation allow.
- Time commitment: Flexible volunteer role, but in the region of 5-10 hours per week depending on commitment. Attendance at fortnightly Pride Committee meetings, as well as ad hoc meetings with other volunteers.
