Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Commercial Assistant to join our commercial team within our Mechanical & Electrical contracting business.
This role would suit someone who is keen to progress through to a quantity surveying career. The successful candidate will support the commercial team across a range of live construction projects while developing the skills, knowledge and experience required to progress through structured training and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities
The Commercial Assistant will support the commercial department in the administration, coordination, and reporting of project commercial activities, including:
Commercial & Project Support
- Assisting Quantity Surveyors with day-to-day commercial management of projects.
- Maintaining commercial trackers, registers, and project records.
- Supporting the preparation and submission of applications for payment.
- Assisting with valuation and variation administration.
- Tracking and recording client instructions and change orders.
- Maintaining subcontractor and supplier records.
- Assisting with procurement tracking and order status updates.
- Supporting the preparation of commercial reports and cost information.
Financial & Administrative Support
- Processing and organising commercial documentation
- Assisting with subcontractor payment administration
- Tracking outstanding applications, approvals and payments
- Supporting month-end commercial reporting processes
- Maintaining accurate electronic filing systems and document control
- Liaising with operational teams to gather project information and supporting records
Team & Development Responsibilities
- Working closely with Commercial Managers and Quantity Surveyors to gain practical experience
- Attending commercial and project meetings where appropriate
- Demonstrating a willingness to learn commercial processes, contracts and construction practices
- Taking part in structured internal and external training programmes
- Progressing towards a Junior / Assistant Quantity Surveyor position over time

Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but not essential:
- Experience within construction, engineering or commercial administration
- Exposure to M&E, construction or building services environments
- Understanding of construction project processes
Training & Career Development
This role is intended as a structured development pathway into Quantity Surveying.
The successful candidate will receive:

Location
Stevenage Office. Visiting sites across London/South when required.
Salary & Benefit
Subject to experience.
Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
